Overview

A long and enviable career

Since 1993 more than 100,000 units of the Aprilia RS4 125 two-stroke have been produced and sold in over 30 countries worldwide. It is in the younger and most competitive classes of the MotoGP that Aprilia has established itself as a true "school of champions". With the Aprilia RS series (RS, RSV, RSW and RSA) 250's and 125's, riders such as Biaggi, Rossi, Melandri, Stoner, Lorenzo and Simoncelli have raced and obtained their first great triumphs. A wealth of successes and technical skills that Aprilia has always transferred to mass production - both in terms of technical philosophy and aesthetics, faithfully replicating the image of bikes having achieved success with the greatest champions of contemporary motorcycling.

2014 Aprilia RS4 125 Features and Benefits:

Racing inspiration:

The 125 class SBK

The RS4 125 is the younger sister of the RSV4, the superbike that has picked up the baton of the invincible war machines from Aprilia's racing department that have dominated the 125cc and 250cc classes of the MotoGP. Today, as then, Aprilia continues to win on tracks all over the world, not with 2-stroke bikes but especially in the Superbike, the category that represents the highest expression of bikes derived from mass production. It is inevitable therefore that the new Aprilia RS4 125 is born with a 4-stroke engine, like the RSV4 and with a “package” of racing technology not found in the competition, such as the innovative Aprilia Quick Shift rapid gear change system, a sophisticated technical solution directly derived from its bigger sister, the RSV4 APRC.

The twin sister of the RSV4.

An untrained eye could easily mistake the new Aprilia RS4 125 Replica for the phenomenal RSV4 Factory, the queen of the SBK. Accomplice the triple headlight, a distinguishing feature of all Aprilia sports products, the racing graphics, the exposed frame and also the compact tail, a true work of art in design which optimally integrates the LED tail light. Also the exhaust system is spectacular, racing-inspired and fully integrated in the lower part of the fairing.

Tech details:

A frame born on the track and grown up on the road

The frame is undoubtedly the flagship of the RS4 project: created based on the exceptional experience acquired by Aprilia in the WSBK and in the 125 and 250 classes of the MotoGP, it adopts die-cast beams in aluminium alloy with cross-ribbing reinforcement. An extremely lightweight structure, able to offer a high torsional rigidity and which stands out for its avant-garde design.

First class brakes and suspension

Both the front suspension, with a robust 41 mm upside-down front fork with black anodised sheaths and 110 mm stroke, as well as the rear suspension with a single shock absorber directly fixed to the asymmetric swingarm are high level. Brakes: at the front a 300 mm diameter steel disc with four-piston radial caliper, supported at the rear by a 220 mm disc with single-piston caliper. The 17” alloy, double six-spoked rims mount 100/80 tyres at the front and 130/70 tyres at the rear.

The engine: an eighth of the aprilia v4.

The Aprilia RS4 125 is powered by the new single cylinder, 125 cc, 4 stroke, 4 valve engine, with electronic fuel injection and liquid cooling. The sophisticated double overhead camshaft (DOHC) distribution ensures maximum power for this capacity, along with fluid and linear output with maximum respect for the environment, being compliant with the most stringent anti-pollution regulations.

Technology:

Technological and ingenuity

Another element in common with the RSV4 IS The futuristic analogue/digital multifunction dashboard with LCD display, which provides all the information on the functioning of the vehicle and the distance travelled. Another refined feature of the RS4 125 is the passenger seat. The transformation from a two-seater to a single-seater takes place without the complicated removal of screws but only via a quick release/attachment button that allows the passenger seat to be replaced with the tail cover (available as accessory) in seconds. Under the saddle, moreover, there is space for a practical storage compartment, the largest in the category.

Aprilia quick shift: and you are a rider!

For the first time on a 125 bike, Aprilia offers the innovative Aprilia Quick Shift rapid gear change system, a technical solution taken directly from Aprilia's experience in the Superbike World Championship. The principle of operation is similar, although simplified in part, to that of the RSV4: also on the RS4 the system manages interruption of torque for gear changing according to the gear engaged, the amount of throttle and engine rpm. The advantage of this system - offered as an accessory - is that the rider can easily shift up keeping the throttle open without using the clutch, making the gear change easier and faster.
