Design

The overall design of the Honda CBR1000RR SP Repsol Edition falls right in line with a standard version of the bike. What that means is you can expect to see a host of the bike’s notable styling traits, including the layered fairing bodywork that cuts a lean and mean appearance, especially when it’s getting down and dirty on the race track.

The bike also features a bubble-shaped windscreen that works hand-in-hand with a

rider’s seating position to keep his body away from potential wind resistance. Just in front of the rider is a full-screen LCD instrumentation that shows all the pertinent information any rider needs to keep track of his performance. These include a lap timer, a trip and fuel-consumption computer, a five-level customizable shift indicator, gear-position indicator, and peak-rpm memory function.

To keep the bike’s overall weight balanced, Honda also designed the CBR1000RR to have its fuel tank positioned in the center of the chassis, ensuring the kind of rider comfort that’s all-too important when riding superbikes that have the cache of of the CBR1000RR.

Having said all of that, what exactly makes the CBR10000RR Repsol Edition different from standard models of its kind? Take one look at it and you’ll immediately notice it. Yes, the bike was dressed in Repsol’s traditional red-orange-white color, imbibing the kind of influence the company has as one of the team’s biggest sponsors.

A bike that has the power and pace of the Honda CBR1000RR needs to have a chassis and suspension setup that can properly address the demands of safety and reliability from its consumers.

To keep the bike weighing as light as possible, Honda set up the CBR1000RR with a strong and sturdy skeleton that is heavily complements by a suspension system that induces a Big Piston Fork front suspension that provides responsive front-end feedback NIX30 front suspension and TTX36 rear shock for superior suspension performance and adjustability on the track or the street.

Rounding out the details on the bike’s frame and other components are the new set of 12-spoke cast aluminum wheels and the corresponding Brembo monoblock callipers that are about as race-proven as any brake system out in the market today. The wheel is then wrapped into a pair of Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC tires.

Unique features to the SP Repsol Edition include a special lightweight subframe with solo seat cowl and hand-selected engine parts for weight and balance, including pistons and connecting rods.

The Honda CBR1000RR SP Repsol Edition retains the same 999cc liquid-cooled, inline four cylinder engine as the one found in the standard CBR1000RR. The engine is capable of producing 171 horsepower and 78.3 pound-feet of torque.

Those are incredible numbers that allows the bike to cover a distance from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds to go with a top speed of 145 mph.

That much power is then sent to the wheels by a close-ratio, six-speed transmission.

A bike of this acclaim doesn't come cheap. That's why Honda priced the CBR1000RR SP Repsol Edition to cost $17,299. It's a pretty steep amount, but if you do buy one, you at least get the benefit of having a transferrable one-year, unlimited-mileage limited warranty with extended coverage available should you get Honda's Protection Plan.
