Suzuki’s new Katana/Recursion to be Supercharged
Fresh new patents filed by Suzuki that the new forced induction model from the Japanese brand will be a supercharged one rather than a turbo-charged machine like we all thought until now. The brand showcased the Recursion concept back in 2013 that resembles the ‘Katana’ design cues and its bodyworks seen in 2017.
This mid-weight machine will be Suzuki’s entry into the world of forced induction and might as well carry the ‘Katana’ brand with it. Currently, the industry calls it the GSX-700T, with the ‘T’ playing us deceptive with “turbo-charged”. But these patent images tell us a rather supercharged story.
Campagna showcases its brand new Electric T-Rex prototype
Time and again it has been proved that electric/hybrid vehicles have an overwhelming advantage especially to ride within the town and this evolution has been a gradual process for some – and an exciting start for others like Campagna.
Canadian three-wheel ‘autocycle’ manufacturer, Campagna, has showcased its latest venture into a new breed of machine. Unveiled at the recently concluded Montreal Electric Vehicle Show, the Electric T-Rex prototype will be the world’s first three-wheeled production autocycle.
The brainchild of a Swedish Stefan Ytterborn, Cake intends “to speed up the journey towards a zero-emission society, while enhancing excitement and fun.” And their very first step is this Kalk electric off-roader that blurs the line between mountain bikes and motorcycles.
Further developing their product strategies, Cake entered into a partnership with Swedish all-green electricity provider Utellus to create solar charging environment specifically to charge their range of electric motorcycles.
Ducati motorcycles in the future will come with radar systems
In a bid to make motorcycling safe, manufacturers are foraying deep into embedding technology and innovation into their products to help riders stay safe on their bikes. Motorcycle accidents are close to 30 times more than those of cars, and Ducati is in an effort to minimize that as much as possible.
According to Ducati’s “2025 Safety Road Map” plan, future motorcycles will have the technology to determine the range, angle, or velocity of other road users in real time via front and rear radar. This will allow the vehicles to be aware of each other on the road and avoid untoward incidents that may involve human error.

Ducati is ticking off the boxes in a list of “first in safety” when it comes to technology. They’re the first motorcycle manufacturer in the world to have a vehicle interact with the jacket-integrated D|air system, and they’re the first to equip a classic model with the ground-breaking ABS Cornering system. So where do they go from here in their bid to introduce new safety systems and technologies? How about front and rear radar? How about front and rear radar that is already slated for 2020 release on one of its models?

KTM 990 Adventure gets an AWD system built by a mechanical engineer
A Swiss mechanical engineer and ardent biker, Guido Koch, has patented an all-wheel-drive system based on a KTM 990 ADV motorcycle. Called the DT-A, Koch has worked on the all-wheel-drive system for nearly a decade and is on the outlook for investments to make it onto a full mass production scale.
The DT-A has retained only the engine, rear wheel, swingarm and the brake system of the original KTM 990. To set up the front-end with the drive, Koch modified the front suspension unit and swapped the conventional telescopic fork with a single-arm swingarm. It receives the drive unit via a chain linkage from the same LC8 motor.
Theives in London face the wrath of ZERO Motorcycle’s new anti-theft device
Motorcycle theft is a growing criminal activity in certain parts of the world. Things in London, however, is in a different level altogether. There were over 14,000 motorcycle thefts reported in London the last year, and 23,430 crimes were committed using motorcycles that were stolen of course.
On an average, 65 bikes are stolen per day and the latest victims reported have been the folks at ZERO Motorcycles. And the irony is that the bikes were stolen from the back of a transporter van while they were on “theft tracking” tests.
Campagna joins hands with Zero Motorcycles to develop electric T-Rex
Jumped to fame way back in 1996, the Canadian Campagna T-Rex showcased bonkers three-wheeled trikes that ran on a 1.4-liter Kawasaki inline-four engine and two side-by-side seats. Later, a 1.6 liter BMW inline-six engine made a 160 horsepower in the T-Rex. 20 years later, Campagna has announced plans to build an electric version of its T-Rex three-wheeler.
To be showcased at the upcoming Montreal Electric Vehicle Show as a prototype, the Electric T-Rex will feature electric powertrain from Zero Motorcycles, the global leader in electric motorcycles and powertrains.
Honda developing the EV-Cub with swappable batteries
Serving 100 million happy customers is a well-achieved milestone for any business, and no other manufacturer but Honda could have made it seem this easy. Being the first two-wheeler to cross such a mark is the Japanese Red Wing’s Super Cub that began its life way back in 1958. As a matter of fact, 2018 bears a distinct significance for the Super Cub, marking its 60th anniversary.
Celebrating this feat, Honda has been planning an electric version of this mighty scooter with the “EV-Cub” showcased first during the 2009 Tokyo Show and the second iteration at the 2015 show. This little scooter is touted to become the first electric production model from Honda to hit the streets and the recent patent images re-stores the same faith.

Vanguard is a brand new name in the motorcycle world that has vowed to celebrate utilitarianism. The brand is touted to be an entirely new and distinct for premium motorcycles that are decisive on re-shaping the rule books.
Now, the American company has joined hands with 3 partners to attack the onset of electric motorcycles under a new banner: “VanguardSpark”. It will be an e-mobility company created to bring to market innovative, distinctive and great value-for-money urban electric two-wheelers.
Carberry Motorcycles launched a brand new 1-lire V-twin engine
Carberry Motorcycles has been the new kid on the block for the custom scene. The company was the brainchild of an Australian chap, Paul Carberry, started ‘Dream Engines and Modifications (DEM)’ and has now started production in 2016 at Bhilai, India, the backyard of the Royal Enfield.
Their first product was christened as the ‘Double Barrel’, an engine that gets the long 90mm stroke engine inherited from RE and uses the cylinders, heads, and choice of 4 or 5-speed gearbox from RE. The company has just launched this new engine for enthusiasts around the world for ₹ 4.96 lakh ($7,600). But there is a small catch here; it’s just not yet available for everybody.
BMW finds a cheaper way to manufacture carbon-fiber

And doing so, they have just received the 2018 JEC Innovation Award in the Leisure & Sports category for the development and manufacture of a rear swinging arm made of carbon fiber.
Yamaha launches four new e-bikes
Setting sights on the 2018 FIM Trial-E Cup races in France and Belgium, the Yamaha Factory Racing chaps have worked out of Yamaha’s ‘Evolving R & D’ unit to get on with the rad looking TY-E concept. This is their entry into the electric motorcycle bandwagon. But their entry into electric two-wheelers happened way back in 1993 when Yamaha “launched the world’s first electrically power-assisted bicycle”.
Now, the Japanese Blue Team is launching a new breed of cycles powered by electric motors. With decent performance ratings, Yamaha has taken this foray into smaller powered “motorcycles” quite seriously. 500 Watt-hour batteries and 60 lb-ft of torque says a lot about these cycles.
KYMCO wants to create an electric eco-system
Founded in 1963 after splitting from Honda, KYMCO or Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd is a Taiwanese company that manufactures motor scooters, motorcycles, and ATVs for worldwide distribution. Known for its scooters majorly, KYMCO showcased a new breed of electric scooter platform at the recently concluded Tokyo International Motor Show.
Addressing the current issues faced by all electric two-wheelers, KYMCO has launched the Ionex Many EV that goes with their idea of modern support systems that include upgrading the infrastructure and battery management solutions. This eco-system will sustain the possibilities of having swappable battery management solutions that enhance the range and practicality of owning an electric scooter.
The Watkins M001
It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s the Watkins M001.
A unique concoction by a Polish engineer, Jack Watkins, this machine on two wheels is the result of nine long years of sweat and blood. Jack’s brains were wound up by the extreme engineering he saw on another custom motorcycle built by Stellan Egeland back in 2009 - a BMW Harrier that had the hub-center steering design.
Fast forward to 2018, Jack managed to complete his vision of the funky front-end onto a bespoke metal plate chassis and bodywork built around a 2002 air-cooled BMW R1150RT engine. Luckily, he had the folks of Moto Spec in Gdańsk to help him set up his first ever build in their workshop. It is nothing short of an inter-galactic spaceship ready to take on the planet.

BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100
BMW is not some run of the mill company. It has one of the most prestigious history books, and for nearly a century, they have been making impeccable products that beam innovation and technological acumen. Started as an aircraft engine manufacturer, BMW started manufacturing two-wheelers in 1923 with the R32 that made use of the iconic flat-twin boxer configuration engine.
100 years down the line, BMW Motorrad still uses this boxer engine to power the finest of the finest motorcycles. To commemorate this heritage, BMW has offered us a sneak at how its next 100 years is going to be by showcasing the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 at the “Iconic Impulses. The BMW Group Future Experience” exhibition in Los Angeles.
After giving us saliva bubbles with its vision of the future through the MINI, Rolls-Royce and the BMW concepts, BMW now gives us the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100, a motorcycle that is an entirely radical concept of the traditional machine on two wheels today. Almost like being officiated at the altar of Utopia, this is “the essence of motorcycling and a symbol of the ultimate riding experience of the future” according to Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.

An Italian company who goes by the name Aero has managed to coup up this extraterrestrial green motorcycle which seems more like a hypothetical or a fictional character from a sci-fi flick. And it is called the ‘E-Racer’. This Aero project was in collaboration with an Italian automotive magazine – Inmoto and after almost a year of work, they landed this space-age E-Racer at the 2016 EICMA show in Milan.

A Munich-based industrial designer who goes by the name Christian Zanzotti has come out with his latest motorcycle creation using a newfangled piece of technology, virtual reality.
What Zanzotti has done is, take a brand new BMW R1200R and dismantle it back to its iconic boxer engine and parts of the frame. Using Virtual Reality-prototyping and state-of-the-art production methods, he, along with his project partners GRAYDEV. and Wunderlich, the world’s largest BMW premium motorcycle outfitter, has assembled a futuristic motorcycle that manifests as a fused element of both man and machine.

But what if the same guys one day decide to power their machine with batteries and motors instead of pistons and shafts?
Don’t bother, because they have already done that a couple of years ago. The experimental vehicle eRR, created as a project with the Technical University of Munich, envisioned a BMW badge on an electric supersport motorcycle back in 2015 when the whole idea of electric powertrains was still in the concept stages.
Launched at the 2017 Tokyo International Motor show, the Japanese brand set the pace with this stunning three-wheeled machine called the Niken (probably formed by the diminution of ‘Ni’ which means ’two’ and ‘Ken’ which means ‘sword’ in Japanese). It is a three-wheeled motorcycle based on the hugely popular MT-09 platform that gets double the grip on the front and heightened ride stability for carving corners with minimal effort.

This 22 Motors Flow is an electric scooter with Artificial Intelligence
Adding to the onset of electric vehicle’s, 22 Motors from the Indian subcontinent have come up with an electric scooter that was unveiled at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo along with the Emflux One and the Menza Lucat EVs’. All from the budding Indian start-up eco-system.
Called as the’ 22 Motors Flow’, the scooter has various smart Internet of Things (IoT) features seen unlike on any other electric offerings in the recent past. Made for Indian conditions and commuters, the Flow comes with latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence (yes, you read that right), Lithium Ion Storage and advanced Electric Powertrains to be called as “ahead of time”.
Menza Motors have launched the "Lucat" electric power commuter
The Emflux One is India’s first electric superbike that was launched at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo with tall claims of having a 125 mph superbike that runs on electricity for up to 100 miles at full range. And if you go full-blown-track-mode, expect a range of around 50 miles.
Now, another Indian start-up, Menza Motors, has come up with their version of an electric “power commuter” called the Lucat. And it looks bonkers for a brand new firm. This too was launched at the same Auto Expo as the Emflux was. The ‘Menza Lucat’, as it is called, is a naked streetfighter that is a factory-customized motorcycle.
