Ever since its debut, the Royal Enfield Himalayan was quick to establish itself as a bash-friendly motorcycle unscathed by any terrain. The only thing holding it back, however, was its basic engine with an output of just 24 horsepower, the lowest among its rivals, like the KTM 390 Adventure. Luckily, the Indian giant is all set to make amends as the new Himalayan 450 has been spotted testing in India with notable changes.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Looks More Muscular

One look at the Himalayan 450’s test mule, and it appears notably different from the existing Himalayan. Sure, the spoke wheels, tall stance, and low seat height are still present, but the motorcycle looks much brawnier in comparison, courtesy of a new fuel tank and the extra-tall windscreen.

In addition, the Himalayan 450 will also get upgraded features. We can spot a new round instrument cluster and more prominent crash protection, along with an LED headlight and LED indicators–the last two being firsts for RE so far. The exhaust, however, is shorter here but boasts a fresh blacked-out finish.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Will Boast Liquid-cooling

Another first for RE will be liquid cooling. Yes, you read that right, the Himalayan 450 will debut with a liquid-cooled, 450cc mill, expected to pump out around 40 horsepower. Not only will this give it a better fighting chance in the segment, but the extra power will also make it a better highway performer.

Like the engine, the underpinnings are more modern too. The Himalayan 450 clearly rolls on USD forks bidding adieu to its gaited telescopic units. RE will probably top this with a swingarm-mounted monoshock at the rear, and upgraded brakes to counter the extra firepower.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 - Expected Launch & Rivals

Even with its updates, the new Himalayan 450 will continue to rival entry-level ADVs like the 390 Adventure, BMW G 310 GS, and the Kawasaki Versys X-300. It’s worth noting that the current Himalayan undercuts all its rivals by a significant chunk, so we can expect the updated bike to still cost less than its rivals even after a price hike. When is it coming, you ask? Well, the EICMA has always been an exciting affair for Royal Enfield, and we believe it’ll unveil some interesting motorcycles at the 2022 EICMA in November. The list could also include a new 650cc cruiser and a 650cc scrambler.
