Maserati urgently needs new models if it is to enjoy sustained success as a brand. For this reason, the Italian automaker is currently celebrating a veritable product fireworks display. The Grecale compact SUV has just been launched on the market, and the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio are already waiting for their relay race in 2023. What is still missing is the new generation of the Quattroporte. But there is now new information on this core Maserati model will receive a major overhaul as well.

According to information from Autocar, the new generation of the Maserati Quattroporte will be launched as early as 2024 with its traditional ICE swapped for an electric powertrain. At the same time, the second sedan in the Maserati model range, the Ghibli, will probably be phased out due to falling demand. As the only remaining sedan in the model range, Maserati will therefore reposition the Quattroporte as a much sportier model, more in line with the first generation from 2003 than its direct predecessor. The direct competitor in the future is therefore more likely to be the Porsche Taycan than the Mercedes S-Class.

The next-gen Maserati Quattroporte will only be offered in all-electric form called "Folgore" (Lightning). The Quattroporte is to be positioned as a four-door grand tourer between the GranTurismo and GranCabrio sports cars and the large Levante SUV. As a result, the new Quattroporte should only just exceed the 5-meter mark, making it almost 20 centimeters shorter than the current model.

Quattroporte First Car To Attract New Customers To The Brand

Commenting on the brand's future positioning, the head of Maserati's Global Product Department, Massimo Capaldi, said he expected the Folgore models to attract a new kind of customer to the brand. So in the future, Maserati is likely to target the Porsche or Polestar niche rather than BMW or Mercedes, as it has in the past. Nevertheless, it is likely to hope to retain existing customers as well, of course.

As all new Maserati models will be based on the platform of the recently unveiled GranTurismo, they will also share the same technical specifications. For example, the Quattroporte will be equipped with a 93-kWh battery from 2024 and will achieve a performance of up to 745 horsepower (556 kw) and 997 pound-feet (1353 Nm). The same applies to the new Levante, which will also be launched in all-electric form only from 2025. Nothing exact is known about the prices yet, but they are likely to start below $200,000.
