Ferrari plans to repeat the Magny-Cours success
After the superb race from Magny-Cours, the Italian team believes that they can repeat the success from France at the British Gran Prix this weekend. They are confident that the 25 point behind McLaren will be reduced at Silverstone.
Raikonnen’s win and Felipe Massa’s 2nd place was what Ferrari needed to enter again the fight for the championship.Their victory ended McLaren’s run of three consecutive wins and put Ferrari back on the top step of the podium for the first time since Massa’s Spanish success in May.
Stefano Domenicali, sporting director of Ferrari team, said that he saw a big improvement this weekend and that their competitor struggled to take the lead but they didn’t have a chance.Ferrari had what they needed for Magny-Cours: style and aggressivity.
Aside from the obvious improvement in the pace of the Ferraris, the win in Magny-Cours is also evidence that Raikkonen may have finally found his feet at the Maranello squad. After failing to follow up his victory at Melbourne’s season-opener, the former McLaren driver had been criticised for being unable to match Massa’s form in the F2007. Indeed, before the French event, he had not made it onto the podium in four races.
Raikkonen finished third at Silverstone last year, behind his Ferrari predecessor, Michael Schumacher. However, the last time the Italian team won the British Grand Prix was back in 2004.Now from what we have seen it will be a great fight between the two main competitors: McLaren and Ferrari. Both of the team have equal chances but McLaren has the lead and this means they will make everything to win this British Grand Prix.
