Gil de Ferran decides to leave Honda F1 team
Honda announced on July 16th that its sporting director, Mr. Gil de Ferran, will leave the Japanese team. Gil de Ferran is a former CART champion and a Indy 500 winner. He joined the Japanese team two years ago, in 2005, in the role of sporting director.
After he worked for Honda for two years in a row, de Ferran has now decided that is time to move on. He commented in a statement his role within the Japanese team had not developed the way he hoped it would, this being the main reason that made him decide to leave Honda.
We understand de Ferran’s decision because Honda got just 1 point for its effort in this season. de Ferran also said that the decision he took was a really hard one and that he is very disappointed to leave the Honda F1 team, and Honda with whom he had been associated for more than 10 years. He completed his statement thanking everyone at the team for the support they gave him and whishing all good luck.
CEO, Nick Fry declared that he is very disappointed about de Ferran’s leaving but hopes that Gil will choose to maintain a close link with Honda.
