McLaren is currently under investigation after the stewards discovered that at the Hungarian Grand Prix the team used a new lightweight gearbox that has not been crash tested.

Sources have confirmed the fact that discussion are taking place to decide if McLaren will get a penalty or not for this.

Although the new gearbox didn’t require an altered crash structure from the one that was already approved by the FIA, McLaren breached article 16.1.2 of the technical regulations: "Any significant modification introduced into any of the structures tested shall require that part to pass a further test."

One thing is for sure, that McLaren did not try to hide the fact that the team used the new gearbox in the Hungarian Grand Prix so this could count in the FIA’s decision. But this we shall see after the investigation ends.
