GM feeling sorry about the Gibbs switch
After Joe Gibbs Racing announced that they will switch GM to join Toyota from the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series the manufacturer, who won more Nextel Cups and races than any other competitor, expressed its dissapointment. This happened due to the fact that for 16 years the collaboration between GM and Joe Gibbs Racing was absolutely perfect.
"While we understand the business nature of racing, we are disappointed in J.D.’s decision and announcement today. With our long-standing relationship and record of winning with them, we hoped they would remain with Chevrolet." said Brent Dewar, General Motors North America Vice President.
Brent Dewar added that GM will continue to support Stewart and Denny Hamlin in the battle for this year’s title due to the fact that Joe Gibbs Racing has two of the three drivers locked in the Chase for the Nextel Cup.
GM’s statement ended by wishing good luck to Joe Gibbs Racing and their pilots. Let’s hope that the switch will bring good luck for Joe Gibbs Racing and we will see some great fighting next year between Toyota and Chevrolet.
