Marcus Gronholm wins the New Zealand Rally
Marcus Gronholm showed everybody that the title is not lost. Gronholm won this weekend the New Zealand Rally after a close fight with Citroen’s driver, Sebastien Loeb. Marcus won the rally by just 0.3 seconds in front of the French driver.
Ford had another driver on the podium. Hirvonen finished the rally in the 3rd place behind Sebastien Loeb. The driver was satisfied with the result."Overall it’s a good finish - six points and the last two days were quite good, so I’m really happy." said Hirvonen.
Subaru’s driver, Chris Atkinson overtook Ford’s driver Jari-Matti Latvala after the penultimate stage of the rally and he obtained the 4th place. Latvala said after the race that his car was overtaken due to the fact that they went for the soft tyre and lost confidence in Whaanga Coast on the second time through. Should we believe him or Latvala was angry due to the position he obtained ?
Dani Sordo, driver of the Citroen rakky team gained 6th position throughout leg three and maintained it until the end of the race. Subaru team leader, Peter Solberg hadn’t much to say in this rally and he finished on the 7th place. Mitsubishi’ driver, the Junior series leader Urmo Aava got the last point in the rally finishing on the 8th position.
The 9th and 10th positions were occupied by the Ford rally cars driven by H Solberg and Wilson who closed the top ten here at the New Zealand Rally.
