In recent times, there have been a bevy of sightings and rumors about the Royal Enfield’s new 650cc cruiser. Finally, the Indian giant has put it all to rest by unveiling its first-ever multi-cylinder cruiser, the Super Meteor 650, at EICMA. The cruiser aims to answer the prayers of Royal Enfield enthusiasts who’ve been begging for a more powerful retro cruiser from the company and take on the global market by storm just like its fellow 650cc siblings, the Interceptor and Continental GT 650.

The Super Meteor 650 Looks Undeniably Like A Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield has long been known for its crisp retro designs and the Super Meteor 650 walks in the same footsteps. The raked-out front, low stance, chrome exhausts, and beefy fenders all create a gorgeous aesthetic, and the pinstriped paint ups the game further. Though the motorcycle appears old-school, Royal Enfield has finally given it all-LED lights and 43mm upside-down forks – believe it or not, a first for RE even though it's over 100 years old.

Topping this is a monopod circular instrument cluster that has an LCD and analog dials. The LCD provides basic information like trip meters, fuel efficiency, and distance to empty. There’s also Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation pod that unlocks smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.

The Super Meteor 650 Has The Same Engine As The Interceptor 650

To no one's surprise, the Super Meteor 650 is powered by a 648cc, twin-cylinder engine that is also fitted to other 650s. The power has dropped to 46 horsepower while the torque output is the same at 38.3 pound-feet. Though not a huge drop (around 1-HP), the Super Meteor 650 tips the scale at 241kg (531 pounds) which puts a huge dent in the power-to-weight ratio, when compared to the 39kg (86 pounds) lighter INT650. The uber-low 740mm seat height will offer you some help to tackle the weight, though.

Unlike the engine, Royal Enfield has bestowed a new chassis for the Super Meteor and coupled it with 19/16-inch alloy wheels. The wheels are clamped by 320mm and 300mm discs (front and rear) in addition to ByBre calipers.

If you find the Super Meteor 650 not too apt for the highway, then the Super Meteor 650 Tourer should do the deed for you. It brings in several creature comforts such as a windscreen, pillion backrest, broader pegs, and a chunkier single-piece seat. It also has distinct colors - Celestial Red and Celestial Blue, while the standard 650 comes in Astral green, Astral Black, Astral Blue, Interstellar Grey, and Interstellar Green. Regardless of what you pick, the Super Meteor 650 will reach European and British markets by Spring 2023, probably followed by a close American launch.
