Chevrolet has announced that the new Silverado ZR2 will make its racing debut at the ‘Best In The Desert King Shocks Laughlin Desert Classic’ race

It is officially the ZR2’s debut, but the prototypes have been taking part in such competitions since 2019, mostly piloted by off-road racing champ Chad Hall

The automaker noted that the ZR2 has already competed in 10 professionally sanctioned off-road races, including the ‘Vegas to Reno Best In The Desert’ race held last month

Only the ZR2’s sheet metal is updated for the race. All the other stuff like the chassis, suspension, and powertrain components are the same as the production-spec truck

Speaking of the Silverado ZR2, it comes with a 6.2-liter, V-8 engine that makes 420 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

It also comes with Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, front and rear e-lockers, transfer case, 18-inch wheels, 33-inch off-road MT tires, and a skid plate package. Max towing and payload capacities are rated at 8,900 lbs and 1,440 lbs, respectively

It also comes with Chevy “flow-tie” emblem for increased airflow, a black hood insert, a unique grille with integrated lighting, wheel moldings, and ZR2 badges

Off-Road Credibility:

Approach angle – 31.8 degrees; Breakover angle – 23.4 degrees; Departure angle – 23.3 degrees; Ground Clearance – 11.2 inches; Wheelbase – 147.5 inches

It is expected to start around $55,000 and will go on sale in spring 2022. Swipe up to read more about the Chevy Silverado ZR2
