Right on schedule, Porsche has launched the new 2022 911 GTS, the perfect mix between the 911 Carrera S and the 911 Turbo. For the 992-generation, the 911 GTS features improved power output, the option for a seven-speed manual, optional AWD, and a host of other upgrades. Deliveries are expected to start in early 2022, with prices starting at $136,700 for the entry-level GTS and maxing out at $156,800 before options, taxes, and other fees.

2022 Porsche 911 GTS – More Power for Power Hungry People

While the last-gen Porsche 911 GTS delivered 450 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque, the 2022 992-gen GTS brings a total of 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, marking an improvement of 23 ponies and 15 pound-feet.

It’s also 7 horsepower and 15 pound-feet more than what’s available from the 911 Carrera S that slots just below it. Naturally, this is an updated version of the same 3.0-liter boxer-six, however, Porsche hasn’t gone into details on how the power bump was achieved.

According to Porsche, the new Carrera 4 GTS can hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds when equipped with the automatic transmission, with the manual transmission coming in just a bit slower for obvious reasons. For the 2022 model year, Porsche is offering the GTS trim with rear- or all-wheel drive, but the Targa 4 GTS will only be available with AWD.

How the 2022 Porsche 911 GTS Stands Out

Outside of being a bit faster and more powerful than the Carrera S, the GTS stands out thanks to its dark exterior details, the most prominent of which is the darkened Targa bar and lettering on the Targa 4 GTS. Standard equipment includes darkened light surrounds, standard LED headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+), and the tinted rear lights. Naturally, you also get the typical GTS script on the door and rear end, and it comes standard with center-lock alloy wheels.

GTS Means Sport Chrono Comes Standard

The interior of the GTS is better than ever. Both the GT Sport steering wheel and the Sport Chrono package come as standard equipment. The GTS features Porsche’s latest iteration of the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system, and the Porsche Track Precision app is included as standard. Other standard features include the sport Seats Plus with four-way adjustable lateral support and Race-Tex upholstery. The components covered in Race Tex include:

-* Seat centers

-* Steering wheel

-* Door handles

-* Armrests

-* Gear lever

-* Storage compartment lid

Humble amounts of carbon fiber trim accent the Race-Tex upholstery nicely. The real news here is that all GTS models with a manual transmission have shorter throws between gears as Porsche has shortened the shifter by 10 mm (0.39 inches). You still won’t out-shift your buddy in his automatic GTS, but you’ll come a little closer to doing so.

Unique GTS Touches

The 911 GTS is a car designed to perform equally well on the road or on the track, so it’s about a lot more than just upgraded looks, aerodynamics, and extra power. The suspension, for example, has been tweaked and subsequently lowered by 10 mm (about 0.39 inches). This should help the 911 GTS handle better in bends, but will also give it a sportier ride overall. The high-performance braking system from the 911 Turbo has been carried over, which will provide improved braking over the lesser Carrera as well. If you’re really looking to hit the track more often than not, you can opt for the lightweight package, which will shed a total of 55 pounds or 24.95 kilo from the GTS’ curb weight.

This package includes carbon fiber bucker seats, lightweight glass, and a lightweight battery. The most significant change with the lightweight package, however, is the rear-seat delete, so it’s only a feasible option if you don’t intend to ever use the back seats (you never intended to do that, though, did you?)

Pricing and Availability

The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is the entry-level model and carries an MSRP of $136,700, making it $19,600 more expensive than the 911 Carrera S and $37,600 cheaper than the 911 Turbo. Here’s a full breakdown of pricing for the 2022 Porsche 911 GTS:
