The Tesla Model S Plaid was launched earlier this month, and it was only a matter of time before we saw it on the drag strip. A YouTube channel with the handle ‘ICSI’ shared the video of a Tesla Model S Plaid going up against the Nissan GT-R in a quarter-mile race. While a formidable competitor to start with, the Model S Plaid made short work of the Godzilla. If you’re a GT-R fan, we warn you to proceed ahead at your own risk!
The Model S Plaid Beat The GT-R By A Full Second
The Nissan GT-R was quicker to start of the line here, but it didn’t take long for the Model S Plaid to start creating a separation with its rival. The sprint to quarter-mile was completed in 9.71 seconds by the Model S Plaid at a trap speed of 148.34 mph. The Nissan GT-R, on the other hand, took 10.799 seconds to finish the race at 132 mph. To win by more than a second on a drag strip against an icon like the Nissan GT-R is commendable.
The Model S Plaid comes with three motors that put out 1,020 horses combined. The 2021 GT-R, just for reference, is powered by a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V-6 engine that makes 565 horses and 467 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all the wheels via a six-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
