EVs and SUVs, they’re both the kinds of cars that will make a frequent appearance at the drag strip. This time, here’s a family hauler taking on a 250+ grand worth of Lamborghini Huracan. Okay, it's unlike any other family hauler out there. Let me elaborate with some numbers:

Tesla Model X Plaid

Now the Tesla Model X was never slow, to begin with. But, it recently received the full Plaid treatment and it's mighty quick. How quick? Well, the Model X Plaid recently clocked in a 0-60 time of 2.3 seconds in the traps, making it the quickest SUV in the world.

It obviously needs a lot of shove to provide that kind of go. The Model X's tri-motor AWD setup is capable of dishing out 1,020 horses and 1,050 pound-feet of torque. How does the Model X Plaid with its 5,741 pounds weight offer such blistering performance still baffles my mind?

Lamborghini Huracan

Moving on to the orange Huracan, it couldn’t be a more Lambo color. Under the hood of the Huracan lies a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V-10 engine that produces 631 horsepower and 443-pound feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Now, these are baseline figures. I can’t confirm if this Huracan is running some mods. The Huracan is considerably lighter though, coming in at just 3,618 pounds.

The Races

Across both rounds, the Tesla beat the Huracan without a problem. The Model X Plaid’s fastest pass was 9.83 seconds at 144.44 mph. Lambo 10.82 seconds at 130.57 mph.

Results

Round 1

9.90s @144.84 mph

10.96s @ 129.55 mph

Round 2

9.83s @ 144.44 mph

10.82s @ 130.57 mph

To Sum it up

A definitive win then for the SUV. So, in conclusion, if money is no bar and you don’t need the extra space, for its looks and theater alone, the Lambo is your ride. However, if you still want the same kind of straight-line performance from your daily driver, then the Model X Plaid isn’t such a bad idea now, is it? The Lambo would still run rings round the Tesla SUV around a track though.
