Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ uploaded yet another video of a drag race on YouTube, this time involving a Volkswagen Jetta and a Ford Mustang. Remember how the Mustang lost to the Fusion a few days back? Well, it seemed like retribution of sorts for the Mustang, but it didn’t go how the muscle car would’ve liked.

While both of them feature a four-pot turbocharged engine under the hood, the Mustang makes over 100 horsepower more than the Jetta. Also, the American muscle is a rear-wheel-drive model whereas the German sedan comes with a front-wheel-drive system. Despite everything going in favor of the Mustang, it lost to the Jetta when it came to real-world performance. Shocking, huh?

The Mustang Is Better On Paper In Every Aspect

Power is channeled to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

A 10-speed automatic gearbox drives the rear wheels in this case.

The Jetta tips the scales at 3,178 pounds, which makes it nearly 750 pounds lighter than the 3,932-pound Mustang. Despite the huge difference in weight, the Mustang boasts of a much better power-to-weight ratio of 0.084 hp/lb versus the Jetta’s 0.072 hp/lb.

The Mustang Had No Answers Whatsoever!

With all the odds stacked against the Jetta, it faces the Mustang in a standing drag race in the first round. The cars were locked into Sports mode with the Traction Control on. The Mustang was quicker off the line, but the Jetta started catching up soon after. By the finish line, the Jetta had trumped the Mustang to draw the first blood.

They raced in the same setting again, but this time, the Traction Control was turned off. It looked like the Jetta’s driver was slow to react, which gave the Mustang a very healthy lead. However, the Jetta overtook it just as fast to win the race with an even bigger margin this time. Jetta leading 2-0.

Next up was a roll race from 31 mph (50 kph) with the cars in Sport modes and Traction Control on. This was the closest race until now. Both the cars were neck-and-neck from kickdown until half the distance. Post that, the Jetta just zipped past the Mustang to hand it yet another loss. DCT FTW!

They raced again from 31 mph in second gear, but this time with the gears in manual mode. The Jetta managed to get its nose ahead at kickdown and kept it that way for the most part of the race. By the end, the lead had gotten big enough to call it a comprehensive win for the Jetta.
