After Losing To The Fusion, The Ford Mustang Now Gets Laughed Out Of The Room By A VW Jetta!

Over 100 horses fewer, but the Volkswagen Jetta still manages to beat the Ford Mustang

Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ brought a Ford Mustang and a Volkswagen Jetta for a race on the drag strip

The Volkswagen Jetta GLI comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 228 HP and 258 lb/ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox powers the front wheels

The Ford Mustang also features a four-pot turbocharged mill, but it displaces 2.3 liters. It makes 330 HP and 350 lb/ft of twist. The rear wheels are powered here via a 10-speed automatic gearbox

The Jetta weighs 3,178 lbs, making it nearly 750 lbs lighter than the 3,932-lb Mustang. But, thanks to a huge difference in the horsepower, the Mustang boasts of a much better power-to-weight ratio of 0.084 hp/lb versus the Jetta’s 0.072 hp/lb

The first round was a drag race with cars in sports mode and traction control on. The Mustang was quicker off the line, but the Jetta started catching up soon after. By the end, the Jetta had edged the Mustang to get a win

They raced again, but this time with traction control off. The Mustang got a very healthy lead, but it was the same story again. The Jetta zipped past the Mustang before the finish and scored another win

Next up was a roll race from 31 mph (50 kph) with the cars in Sport modes and Traction Control on. At kickdown, both cars were neck-and-neck. However, the Jetta slowly took the lead and won yet again

They tried another roll race, this time with the gearbox in manual mode. It didn’t help the Mustang in any way as the Jetta went on to score a clean sweep over its American rival
