Now, we here at TopSpeed or no stranger to Sam Carlegion. We regularly feature drag races from his YouTube channel. This time was no different as you join us at dusk, where we saw good old American muscle taking on one of the best performance nameplates in the industry. The Mercedes E53 AMG. Let’s see how things pan out, but before that, here are the numbers.

Dodge Charger Scat Pack R/T

In the red corner, we have a Dodge Charger 392 Scat Pack R/T that features a 6.4-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine that produces 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque.

The 392 HEMI is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with power going exclusively to the rear wheels. The Charger tips the scales at 4,354 pounds. According to Sam, both the cars here share the same chassis. Base Price? $42,000.

Mercedes Benz E53 AMG

Meanwhile, In the black corner, we have Mercedes‘ latest generation of E Class, in AMG guise, the E53 AMG to be more specific. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder Turbocharged/ Supercharged engine that produces 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.

The engine in the E53 AMG is mated to a nine-speed transmission coupled to the 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. The Mercedes weighs 4,376 pounds and has a base price of US$75,000. With the number is taken care of let’s get to the race.

The Standing 1/4 Mile

Both cars were set to the sportiest mode available, with the Mercedes in Sport Plus and the Dodge in track mode. With that, it was time for the showdown to begin. The hammer dropped and the driver in the Dodge, unfortunately, messed up the start and as a result, the Mercedes got away and took the win. Not what we expected from the Charger did we? Anyway, let’s see if the Dodge can redeem itself over the subsequent rounds.

They turn back to stage another round. Once again, the Mercedes manages to get off the line better, to the extent that it was about two car lengths ahead, within the first couple of hundred feet. However, surprise surprise as the Charger managed to not just reel in the Mercedes but also got to pass it by the time the two cars made it to the finish line, thus handing the win to the Dodge. Sam really was surprised by the Charger’s pace and performance.

The Roll Races

Things got a whole lot interesting on the Roll races. Two races from 50 km an hour or 31 miles an hour. They were to mash the throttle past the pile on. Round one of the role races was a gentle cruise in automatic mode. Past the cone, the drivers in both cars gave it the beans. Again it was pretty close between the two, however, the Dodge just had the legs over the Mercedes and managed to clinch the first round.

For round two with both cars on the burner in manual mode, it was a no-brainer which car was going to win the Charger had this one in the kitty, easy.

To Sum It Up

So what we’ve learned from this particular duel is that the Dodge can easily dominate when you take the launch out of the equation. The Mercedes costs about twice as much as that of the Dodge, but does it offer twice the performance or twice the fun? You be the judge.
