A 1972 Audi 100 Coupé S/GT, rebuilt by Niklas Frisk from Sweden, has now been restored to its former glory as a sporty vehicle for everyone to appreciate. He meticulously recreated the Audi Coupé that we see here, making a few subtle changes that have dramatically altered the looks of the car. For instance, several metal body pieces are from Volkswagen, with some parts also sourced from a motorcycle. It took 5,000 hours of relentless effort to painstakingly recreate this masterpiece.

Overview

In the early 70s, Audi created the 100 Coupé S, and it is a work of art in design and engineering. It was positioned as a fastback GT car from the Audi brand. As sporty as the design might seem, it had a modest 1.9-liter engine. Although most two-door Coupés from this period are rear-wheel drive, this one packs a front-wheel-drive layout.

These were technologies that were pretty much unheard of in cars back then. This two-door Audi was also practical with a usable trunk and, not to mention, the outright performance that it offered.

Exterior

The design and form are unmistakable and that of a muscle car, with an uncanny resemblance to the iconic Eleanor Ford Mustang. Frisk's 1972 Audi 100 Coupé S/GT incorporates components from other cars as well. The metal body, for example, is made out of panels from a VW, and fenders are straight out of a Golf from that era.

Meanwhile, the gas cap is from a Victory motorbike and is perfectly framed in the car's design. Front and rear skirts were also custom-made for this car. 18-inch Dotz SP5 aluminum wheels finished in grey complement the steel grey paint of the body, lending this classic Audi a touch of sophistication.

Interior

Many unique interior parts were specially made for this Restomod. You sit in front of a couple of no-nonsense analog dials that tell you everything from speed to the oil temperature. The seats, gear shifter, and dash are all wrapped in leather.

Custom-made metal pedals look great against the grey leather floor mats with Coupe S/GT proudly on display. The center console has a retro-looking yet modern Hifi with Bluetooth and a subwoofer to make life in this classic as enjoyable as possible from behind the wheel.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Coupé is powered by a 1.9-liter naturally aspirated engine. It has now been bored out to 2.0 liters, with a new camshaft, double Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, a new cylinder head, and other upgrades. The result? It features a five-speed manual transmission.

Weight has also gone down to under 2600 pounds, which adds to the performance quotient. The car also features a modified adjustable Airrex suspension that should help it ride like a modern car, while brakes and axles from a Golf 3 were used. The Coupé is an eye-catcher in every way and is certain to be a crowd-puller at various tuning events. It strikes a great balance between classic & innovative.

Conclusion

The 1972 Audi 100 Coupé S/GT is a car that has a beautiful silhouette. Believe it or not, even Porsche collaborated with Audi to modify the layout of the 100 Coupé to give it rear-wheel drive and a V-8 engine from a 928.

They even made three prototypes; however, mass production of that model never saw the day of light. Nonetheless, this Audi Coupé by Niklas Frisk seems to capture the spirit of that car in this modern recreation. He is aware of the strengths of this stunning car and has made a stellar effort to rebuild it.
