Drag races are fun when similarly spec’d cars race against each other. But, they are even more fun when you have vehicles from different segments and niches go up against each other. In this video by Carwow, the Audi e-Tron takes goes head-to-head against the Honda Civic Type-R and the BMW X4. All of them follow a different diet and that plays a major role in the result of the race. Do you think the instantaneous torque of the EV is good enough against a high-revving petrol mill and a torquey, powerful diesel?

The Civic Holds A Massive Weight Advantage Over Its Rivals

The Audi e-Tron is powered by two electric motors, one mounted on each axle, that produce 408 horses and 490 pound-feet of torque. It is an all-wheel-drive SUV, obviously.

The Honda Civic Type-R features a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged gas engine. It makes 320 horses and 295 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

The BMW X4 M40d comes with a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo six-cylinder oil-burning engine under the hood that churns out 330 ponies and 502 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The e-Tron is the heaviest of the lot, courtesy of the battery packs and motors. It weighs in at 5,490 pounds! This makes it 1,300 pounds heavier than the 4,190-pound BMW X4, and 2,448 pounds heavier than the 3,042-pound Honda Civic Type-R!

The Audi e-Tron Neither Won Nor Lost

In the first drag race, the BMW X4 left the other two in the dust. The Civic Type-R struggled to gain traction, while the Audi e-Tron floated away silently past it. The BMW did the quarter-mile in 12.8 seconds, followed by the e-Tron in 13.4 seconds, and finally, the Civic Type-R that took 13.9 seconds.

The first rolling race was from 30 mph with the BMW and Honda slot into second gear. The instantaneous torque of the e-Tron made sure it got a good lead, while the BMW also paced better than the Civic. But, once the Civic was able to redline in every gear, it didn’t take long for the high-revving car to get past both its rival to steal a comfortable win. The BMW got close to the Audi e-Tron in the end. In the second rolling race, the cars started at 50 mph. This time, the Audi couldn’t get past either of them immediately, but it managed to get a lead over the BMW after a few seconds. The Honda Civic Type-R, on the other, was in a league of its own here. It kept increasing its distance from the other two cars right until the finish line.

As for the brake test, the Civic Type-R took the shortest distance to stop, followed by the Audi e-Tron and the BMW X4. So, all-in-all, the BMW won the drag race whereas the Civic won the rolling races and the brake test. The Audi e-Tron, on the other hand, secured second place in all four rounds.
