BMW Is Playing With Our Feelings By Equipping A Quad-Exhaust Setup On A Non-M X1

A camouflaged BMW X1 was recently spied with a quad exhaust setup, suggesting a BMW M35i is in the works

A BMW X1 prototype was recently spotted testing. It had a quad exhaust setup, suggesting it was an M model

However, BMW has stated on a previous occasion that there will never be a pure M model based on the front-wheel-drive platform. This means the prototype is an M35i model

The highlight was the quad exhaust setup. Apart from it, there weren’t a lot of differentiating cues. The only exposed parts were the rood, A-pillar, and a part of the hood, and they were all finished in black

The current X1 comes with a 2.0-liter, twin-turbo four-cylinder engine that makes 228 HP and 258 lb/ft of torque

The X1 M35i is rumored to make 350 horses, but I feel it’s a bit of a stretch. The X2 M35i makes 302 horses from the same engine. So, something in this ballpark seems realistic

The BMW X1 M35i could arrive sometime in 2022. An electric X1 is also in the works and it will come sometime in 2023
