DeLorean Rises From The Ashes With Its Latest Creation, The Alpha5 EV

The DeLorean Alpha5 EV comes with massive gullwing doors and a 300-mile range

The DeLorean Alpha5 draws inspiration from the infamous star of the ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy, the DMC-12, without going overboard

It features gullwing doors and rear glass louvers like the original car. Apart from these aspects, it seems like a fresh take

The Aplha5 comes with slim headlights and taillights with illuminated DeLorean lettering. For now, it has been revealed in a base performance trim and a launch edition

The images also reveal stylized aero wheels, a charging port of the driver’s side front fender, and two dual-tone exterior shades. The sloping roofline and the unconventional door handles aid the car’s 0.23 drag coefficient rating

On the inside, it is as modern as any new-breed EV out there. There are barely any physical buttons or switches. A touchscreen system is placed on the center tunnel and it’s tilted upwards

The Alpha5 is a four-seater, which makes it a practical, family sedan. The lack of a B-pillar should make the getting in and out of the car extremely easy

While the power outputs were not revealed, DeLorean noted that the Alpha5 will be able to sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 2.99 seconds, and to 88 mph in 4.35 seconds. The top speed will be capped at 155 mph

The EV will boast a 100+ kWh battery pack that’s going to be good for over 300 miles of range. All these specs are for the ‘base performance’ model, which suggests that hotter version(s) are in the reckoning

The DeLorean Alpha5 will be launched at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance in August 2022, and we can expect all specs to be revealed then

Considering DeLorean’s fame, the specs on offer, and the fact that it will be limited to just 88 examples, the Alpha5 will certainly not be cheap. It is still some time away as it will enter production in 2024
