Daniel Abt has posted videos of the Porsche GT2 RS taking on the Porsche Taycan on the drag strip in one instance, and the McLaren 765 LT on another. This time, he brought a 992 911 Turbo S to the strip and pit it against the Ferrari F8. While it’s not a GT2, the 911 Turbo S is no slouch either. As for the Ferrari, it makes over 700 horses and is 600+ pounds lighter than the Porsche. This is the ultimate battle of two quick convertibles – who are you rooting for?

This Porsche Has An All-Wheel-Drive System, But The Ferrari Is Lighter

The Porsche 992 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is powered by a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that churns out 641 ponies and 590 pound-feet of twist. It is mated to an eight-speed PDK as well as an all-wheel-drive system.

The Ferrari F8, on the other hand, comes with a 3.9-liter V-8 engine that cranks 710 horses and 568 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The Porsche has the higher torque and an all-wheel-drive system to help it launch better off the line. However, it is also heavier. The 911 Turbo S weighs in at 3,770 pounds, which is 606 pounds heavier than the 3,164-pound Ferrari F8.

This Is One Of The Closest Battles On A Drag Strip

The Porsche torque helps with quick starts, but the F8 horsepower plays a role in the half-mile race. The 911 Turbo S flew past the F8 and kept the lead for around a quarter-mile. Then the F8 was able to hold its ground and at the half-mile mark, it beat the Porsche 911.

The German took 2.85 seconds from 0-62 mph and completed the quarter-mile in 10.56 seconds. The Italian took 3.29 seconds from 0-62 mph and 10.65 seconds to quarter-mile. But, the F8 reached the half-mile mark in 16.45 seconds, which was 0.15 seconds before the 911. It also recorded a higher top speed – 165 mph vs Porsche’s 160 mph.

The second race was even more exciting. It started the same way, but this time, the Ferrari couldn’t get past it. The Porsche sprinted to 62 mph in 2.73 seconds this time and to quarter-mile in 10.39 seconds. It hit the half-mile mark in 16.38 seconds at 161.1 mph. The F8 tried to play catch up but failed. It took 3.25 seconds to 62 mph, 10.61 seconds to quarter-mile. The second quarter sprint was much better, but it fell short by 0.2 seconds, taking 16.4 to the half-mile line at 165.7 mph. Talk about beating it by the nose!

Then there was a rolling race which saw the Ferrari have a much better kickdown and kept a healthy lead till the very end. This wasn’t surprising because the Porsche was quicker off the line in the races before this, but when things got rolling, the Ferrari was the faster one. Compare the difference between the two at 0-62 mph and then at the half-mile mark to get an idea of this.

Conclusion
