Don't Be Fooled Into Believing What You're Hearing About the Nissan Z and Z Nismo

If this latest report is true, which it’s probably not, we could be seeing the Nissan Z Nismo in less than a year

A new report from Japanese publication Best Car says that the Nissan Z Nismo could arrive in January of 2022

That will be less than six months after the production version of the Z Proto is unveiled (August 17, 2021)

According to the report, the base Nissan Z will have just 299 horsepower

While the Z Nismo will have 399 horsepower

This would mean that Nissan would leave the Infiniti Q60’s turbocharged V-6 untouched, which doesn’t seem very likely

It would also mean that the base Z would be down by 33 horsepower compared to the base 370Z

It also contradicts reports that the Z will start out at $34,995 or $87 per horsepower, about 402 horsepower if you do the math

And this would also mean that the Nissan Z Nismo won’t be a hybrid

We still expect the base Nissan Z to have between 375 and 400 horsepower while the Nismo should have at least 440 horsepower if not more

As for when the Nismo will be revealed, January 2022, at the Tokyo Auto Salon seems way too soon

But, it could happen if Nissan really is using an unmodified V-6 from the Infiniti Q60 as there would be less tuning work to do.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but none of this seems all that likely
