The facelifted Tesla Model X was officially unveiled alongside the Model S in January of 2021, but to prepare for its launch, the production of the pre-facelift Model X was suspended in December 2020. Unfortunately, the facelifted Model X did not reach customers until October 2021, and this has led Elon Musk to admit that they "dropped the ball badly" on the Model X's production.

Elon Musk's remarks came due to a Tesla investor named Sawyer Merritt, who stated on Twitter that the rollout of the refreshed Model X was horrible, which was further exacerbated by the fact that there was a lack of communication to customers who have been waiting for their car for a year or more already.

Elon Musk then replied, admitting that the Tesla Model X is a difficult car to build and that he shouldn't have stopped production of the previous Model X when there was still demand.

Unveiled alongside the refreshed Tesla Model S, the 2022 Model X comes with a slightly updated front and rear fascia that's similar to its sedan sibling. Most of the changes, however, are concentrated in the interior, wherein the Model X also gets the controversial yoke steering along with an all-new infotainment system.

Two powertrain options are available, with the base trim churning out "only" 670 horsepower, a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds, and a range of 351 miles. On the other hand, the Model X Plaid comes with three motors that are good enough for an astounding 1,020 horsepower. That extra performance does have a range penalty, dropping down to 335 miles, though it goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds.
