Lamborghini Countach - Celebrating Its 50-Year Anniversary

Lamborghini is celebrating one of its most definitive models as the Countach turns 50

Lamborghini has launched a series to celebrate the Countach's 50th anniversary

The first of four series will feature Marcelo Gandini - the designer of the car

The Countach is a perfect representation of 1970s and 1980s excess and innovation

In its 16-year production run, a total of 1,999 cars were made, in 5 different versions

1973-1977 Countach LP400

The first and most sought-after, with 152 units produced.

Its 3.9-liter V-12 produced 375 hp and 271 lb/ft, which allowed for 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph

1978-1982 Countach LP400S

Three different trims (S1, S2, and S3) existed. A total of 247 cars were made

The LP400 S3 was heavier, but had a more usable interior

The LP400S featured flared fenders, additional vents, and an optional rear wing

1982-1985 Countach LP500S

It got a bigger V-12 with 375 hp and 308 lb/ft

The U.S.-spec model, called the LP5000S, was down 22 horsepower

A total of 321 LP500S/LP5000S were produced

1985-1988 Countach LP5000 QV

QV stood for Quattrovalvole (four valves)

Th QV's new V-12 displaced 5.2 liters and had four valves per cylinder

The Quattrovalvole developed 455 hp and 369 pound-feet

The US version replaced the Weber carburetors with a Bosch fuel injection system, and was down 35 hp

610 carburated 5000QV were made

While only 66 fuel-injected Quattrovalvole left the factory

1988-1990 Cuntach 25th Anniversary

The swan song of the Lamborghini Countach

It was made to celebrate 25 years of Lamborghini cars

It featured a body revised by Horacio Pagani himself, utilizing kevlar to reduce weight

The 25th Anniversary was based on the 5000QV and used the same engine

0 to 60 mph was dealt with in 4.5 seconds and the top speed was 184 mph

The Countach was quickly succeeded by the Diablo, in 1990

But the Countach remains one of the most definitive Lamborghini models ever made
