The Jefferson County Sheriff is back with the trusty old Explorer, this time taking on the mental C7 Z06. Granted it's not the latest C8 Z06, but, the previous iteration is no slouch either. Now, this isn't the first time that we've seen the Jefferson County Police Cruiser at the Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado.

Wheels has previously featured it in a bunch of videos taking on cars like the Nissan R35 GT-R, the Tesla Model Y, a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500,, and a Chevy Camaro ZL1. Heck, it even went up against a Quad bike.

C7 Chevy Corvette Z06

In the yellow corner, we have a C7 Z06. Yes yes, the C8 Z06 is here, but if you want the ultimate front-engined Vette, you can't look any further than the good ol' C7 Z06. Why? Because Chevy has thrown the kitchen sink at it, in terms of hardware, be it the aero bits or the sticky rubber.

Under the hood lies the mighty LT4, which is derived from racing. The 6.2-Liter supercharged mill is good for 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. With an added dose of Carbon, the C7 Z06 tips the scales at 3,560 pounds.

County Sheriff's Ford Explorer

Sitting in the adjacent lane, we've got a true workhorse. The County Sheriff's Ford Explorer. I can't really be sure about the exact spec, but what I can tell you is that the Civilian Explorer has a couple of 3.0 engines options that produce anywhere between 285 and 400 horsepower. The standard Explorer weighs 4,385 pounds.

Factor in all the extra equipment like the bullbar upfront, the overhead lights, siren, etc' basically that you stuff that you find on your typical police car, and you're looking at something that is easily a couple of hundred pounds heavier.

The Race

The Chevy pulled off some pretty epic elevens before lining up next to the Sheriff. From a dig, as expected the yellow car was gone, leaving the trailing police car with its lights and sirens for dead. The C7 Z06 complete the 1/4 mile in 11.55 seconds at 121.35 mph, while the Police Explorer took a leisurely 15.78 seconds at 89.50 mph to cover the same distance.

To Sum It Up

Oh come on now, you really didn't expect the Explorer to be anywhere near the Chevy, did you now. One of America's best sports cars that weighs half as much as the Explorer, there was no contest really.

This duel was all about discouraging illegal street racing out on the streets by the local authorities, and urging folks to take it to the track instead.
