Lotus Evija Is Here To Remind You Of Ayrton Senna's 1987 Detroit GP-winning F1 Car

Lotus Evija gets a new livery inspired by the iconic Lotus Type 99T

First announced in July 2019, Evija is the first electric supercar to be produced by Lotus

Lotus plans to build a total of 130 units and production is set to begin in mid-2021

Now, the Evija is making an appearance at the Monterey Car Week

It comes painted in a striking all-new livery, inspired by the iconic Lotus Type 99T from 1987

As a reminder, Type 99T was driven by Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna to victory at that year’s Detroit Grand Prix

The new livery is a combination of yellow with blue accents, and we have to admit it is our favorite color so far

As a reminder, Evija is powered by four independently controlled high-power density e-motors powered by a 2,000 kW lithium-ion battery

This system delivers a total of 1,972 horsepower and 1,254 pound-feet of torque

The Evija can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under three seconds before maxing out its speed at over 200 mph

It also delivers an electric driving range target of 215 miles

The car has been built around an ultra-lightweight carbon fibre monocoque that makes it the world’s lightest production EV hypercar, at 1,680kg

Evija is priced at a little over $2 million
