Acura is bringing out their latest Acura TLX midsize sedan and for the first time in a while, it can be had in the Type S trim. If you are familiar with what Honda and Acura are doing, you'll know that Type S is the sportiest trim before the coveted Type R. The Acura TLX will begin arriving next month, with a starting price of $52,300.

Two well-equipped variations of the Type S will be available. The entry-level Type S gives you 20-inch multi-spoke wheels with Pirelli Cintudato P7 all-season tires. The second variant adds Performance Wheel and Tire Package, which brings the price up to $53,100. For that, you get NSX-inspired split five-spoke wheels, which are also lighter and reduce unsprung weight by over 21 pounds (9.5 kg). In Terms of rubber, you get 255-series Pirelli P-Zero summer tires.

You’ll be happy to know that the Acura TLX Type S engine is developed by the company’s most experienced powertrain engineers. The same team that developed the NSX twin-turbo V-6 engine developed this 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6, producing 355 horsepower. The unit works together with a specially-tuned 10-speed automatic and the company’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD).

Performance is further enhanced by a double-wishbone front suspension, adaptive dampers, and the NSX-derived electro-servo braking system, utilizing Brembo four-piston brake calipers with signature red calipers.

Acura has always been the more performance-oriented of the bunch and the new Type S will embody that philosophy, while still offering a comfortable luxury experience. The TLX Type S offers 16-way adjustable front seats, wrapped in supple Milano leather with Ultrasuede inserts. Among the numerous features are the 17-speaker premium audio system and the 10.2-inch infotainment screen, operated through Acura’s “True Touch Interface”.

Standard safety and driver-assistive equipment include the "AcuraWatc" suite of safety and driver-assisting technologies, as well as the world’s first front passenger airbag designed to reduce head rotation in a collision.
