If you’re a regular viewer of ‘DragTimes’, you’d be aware of how fast Brooks’ McLaren 765LT is. He’s got another really quick car in his garage – a Ferrari SF90 Stradale. We’ve seen it go up against his Model S Plaid in the past, but this time, we get to see it take on the McLaren 765LT, which has been very dominant in most of the races it has competed in. Now, finally, these two cars come face-to-face for a showdown, which Brooks says is the “closest race we’ve ever had” on the channel. Which car do you think is going to win here?

What Much Power Do The Supercars Make?

McLaren 765LT

Power is fed to the rear wheels exclusively via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is completely stock and rides on Toyo R888R tires. The car is quite light, tipping the scales at just 3,030 pounds.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale

Power is routed to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Just like the McLaren, this beast is also stock and rides on Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires for this race. The car is 520 pounds heavier than its rival, standing in at 3,550 pounds.

Race 1 of 3:

In the first race, both the driver had amazing reaction times and started off at almost the same time. The cars ran parallel to each other till the very end. It was only after watching closely we realized that the McLaren seemed to have a bit of its nose ahead at the beginning, but the Ferrari got level by the end. This made sense, because even though both the cars boast of the exact torque, the McLaren is over 500 pounds lighter. But, by the end, the Ferrari’s 231-horsepower advantage came into play.

The winner of this race was the 765LT and it won by the barest of margins. It touched the finish line .0048 seconds before the Ferrari! On paper, the Ferrari beat the McLaren by just .001 seconds!! The Ferrari completed the race in 9.521 seconds at 147.18 mph and the McLaren did it in 9.522 seconds at 145.89 mph. However, the McLaren driver’s reaction time was .138 seconds vs the Ferrari driver’s .143-second time and it all came down to this. This .005-second difference worked in the McLaren’s favor here and made up for lagging behind by 0.0048 seconds in pure times. You know a race is close when it comes down to the third decimal time. Phew!

Winner – McLaren 765LT

Race 2 of 3:

The second was a little more definitive and we didn’t need to refer to the race slips to see who won. The Ferrari got the lead here within a few seconds and eventually won the race. It touched the finish line 0.701 seconds before the McLaren. As for the timings, the Ferrari completed the quarter-mile distance in 9.560 seconds at 147.01 mph, whereas the McLaren did it in 9.569 seconds at 145.36 mph. The Ferrari driver’s reaction time was .029 seconds compared to the 0.90-second time of the McLaren’s driver.

Winner – Ferrari SF90 Stradale

Race 3 of 3:

As expected, this race was as even as it can get. The cars stayed neck and neck till the very end, prompting us to check the time board and the race slips to know the winner. Well, it’s the McLaren 765LT. It was the closest race of the three, with the Brit winning the race by a margin of just .0031 seconds! The reaction times were insane – Ferrari 0.28 seconds vs McLaren .011 seconds. The Italian took 9.577 seconds at 146.69 mph to complete the race whereas the McLaren took 9.591 seconds at 144.97 mph. But, the McLaren touched the finish line .0031 seconds quicker to win the best of three.

Winner – McLaren 765LT

Conclusion

It all came down to the reaction times of the drivers because the ETs were better for the Ferrari every single time. But, this was arguably the closest drag race we’ve ever seen.
