Unlike the Honda Civic Type-R which has been leaked many times and we have some details already, the automaker managed to stay tight-lipped about the new Civic Si. But, the eleventh-gen Si is here now and it comes with quite a few changes. On paper, it makes less power, but the car is said to be improved in a whole lot of other aspects. It now features the Type-R’s rev-matching, peak torque at lower rpm, and even better exhaust flow. How about that!
What’s New This Time Around?
Power is still sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. However, the 2022 Civic Si now comes with rev-matching, something that was available only on the Type-R until now. The gearbox also has 10-percent shorter throws when compared to before. A Helical limited-slip differential is offered as standard.
The car also features a new ‘Individual’ drive mode apart from the Normal and Sport modes. As the name suggests, it allows you to select the engine response, steering effort, and instrument panel display color parameters based on your preference. In the Sport mode, instrument accent lighting changes from white to red.
Honda has also tuned the new dampers specifically for the Civic Si. The front and rear stabilizer bars are thicker when compared to the standard Civic and minimize body roll. Even the upper mounts on the front struts are reinforced to increase the cornering loads. The springs rates are said to be eight-percent stiffer at the front and 54-percent stiffer at the rear when compared to the standard Civic.
The brakes are bigger, too. The company has offered 12.3-inch rotors at the front and 11.1-inch rotors at the rear. These are 1.2- and 0.9 inches bigger than the 2022 Civic sedan at the front and back, respectively.
As for the fuel economy, the 2022 Civic Si delivers 27 miles in the city, 37 miles on the highway, and 31 miles combined for every gallon of fuel consumed.
What’s Different On The Outside?
On the outside, there are some aero bits to aid performance. The front bumper is more aggressive than the standard model and the rear bumper is redesigned to reveal two large oval exhaust pipes. The car rides on 18-inch wheels as standard that come wrapped in 235/40 section all-season tires as standard. You can also opt for summer tires in the same size that are better-suited if you intend to push the car hard more often than not. The wheels are finished in Si-specific matte black color that complements the exclusive Blazing Orange Pearl exterior shade pretty well. There’s a new rear spoiler and some Si badges all around as well.
The Civic Si is 184 inches long, 70.9 inches wide, and 55.7 inches tall. The wheelbase measures 107.7 inches. The wheelbase is 1.4 inches longer than the standard Civic and that also makes it the longest in its class. The front and rear tracks are 60.5- and 61.6 inches wide. The rear track is 0.5 inches wider for better stability. The car weighs 2,952 pounds.
What’s New On The Inside?
The cabin is pretty much the same as the 2022 Civic, but the Civic Si features sport pedals and red contrast stitching on the doors, steering wheel, center armrest, shift boot, and shift knob. A seven-inch screen sits in the instrument cluster and a nine-inch touchscreen system graces the center console. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 12-speaker Bose audio system is also part of the package.
Thanks to the long wheelbase, the car offers ample legroom – 42.3 inches at the front and 37.4 inches at the rear. At the front, you get 37.6 inches of headroom, 57 inches of shoulder room, and 54.3 inches of hip room. At the rear, you have 37.1 inches of headroom, 56 inches of shoulder room, and 48.9 inches of hip room available at your disposal. The cargo volume is rated at 14.4 cubic feet.
