Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ uploaded another drag race video on his YouTube channel, this time involving two stalwarts known for their punchy prowess. On one corner, we had the mighty Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, and on the other, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S. Both these vehicles are powerful and fast, so it makes for an unpredictable race. Who do you think will win?

How Much Power Do They Make?

Power is routed to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

A nine-speed automatic transmission channels power to all four wheels.

The three-row SUV tips the scales at 5,334 pounds, but surprisingly, the GLE 63 S is the heavier one here. It weighs 5,456 pounds, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of .111 hp/lb. The Durango’s power-to-weight ratio, on the other hand, is .133 hp/lb.

That Was A Close Contest!

The first round was a drag race with both the beasts slot in Race/Track mode. When they got off the line, the Durango was slightly ahead. However, the GLE 63 S manage to pull it back and scored a surprising victory. The Durango took 13.2 seconds at 115 mph to complete the quarter-mile distance, whereas the GLE 63 S took 12.48 seconds at 117 mph.

The second race was also in the same settings. This time, the Dodge just flew off the line and the AMG had no chance to catch up. Going by this race, it looked like the Durango struggled to get a perfect launch the first time. This time, the Mercedes took 12.68 seconds at 119 mph. The Durango’s time was not revealed.

Next up was a rolling race from 31 mph with the SUV and coupe slotted in the Race/Track mode and gearbox locked in automatic mode. The Durango had a better kickdown, but it looked like the AMG will be able to catch it. A couple of seconds later, the three-row SUV zoomed past it again to gain a victory.

Sam and Mark raced with their vehicles in the same settings as before. This time, the race was much closer, but the Durango had its nose ahead right from kickdown and managed to keep it that way till the finish line.

In the end, this was a 3-1 win for the Dodge Durango, but not a dominating one, per se. Nevertheless, it was a fun race overall. Watch the video below and let us know your thoughts about it in the comments section.
