Just after its launch at the Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach, California last week, the very first 2022 Acura NSX Type S to be sold outside of Japan went under the hammer for a cool $1.1 million courtesy of Mecum Daytime Auctions.

To put that into perspective the base price for an Acura NSX Type S is $169,500 and this particular Acura NSX comes with the optional $13,000 lightweight package, but that still only adds up to $182,000. Hence the owner of this brand VIN#001 of the Acura NSX Type S, Rick Hendrick, has paid nearly six times the cost over the base price. The proceeds from this auction will go towards STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education activities at the COSI (Centre of Science and Industry) in Columbus Ohio which is not very far from Marysville, where the NSX is made.

Mr.Hendrick owns Hendrick Motorsports and the Henrik automotive group and is known for purchasing first edition variants of brand-new performance cars. In the past, he's bought first edition models of the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, the 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition, and the 2020 Corvette Stingray. Rick also acquired the very first 2017 NSX (Second-Gen), for which he paid a cool $1.2 million.}

The NSX Type S distinguishes itself from the regular model and it comes with more aggressive styling elements which include a bigger air intake, a new pronounced front splitter, carbon fiber elements on the sill, and that aggressive diffuser. The optional lightweight package on this particular NSX consists of a high-gloss carbon-fiber engine cover, carbon-ceramic brakes, and even more carbon elements inside the cabin resulting in weight savings of 58 pounds.

The car scene here also comes painted in this sinister shade of Gotham gray matte metallic which is limited to just 70 examples. Also, did you also know that this was the first time that Acura has ever put black badges on, any of its vehicles? Power comes courtesy of a 3.5 Liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine coupled to three electric motors with a combined power output of 600 horsepower and 492 pound-feet of torque.

The Acura NSX Type S marks the end of the line for the NSX range and only 350 units will ever be produced, with 300 of them bound for the United States.
