"The Last Blast," a Mercedes-Benz Classic short film, depicts several moments and sites from Stirling Moss' life and career. The celebrated British racing driver, passed away at his Mayfair home on Easter Sunday last year at the age of 90.

The inline eight-cylinder 300 SLR 722 roars for the final time taking on the streets of London before returning to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart

In the film, Gert Straub; the Classic Center's long-time employee and project manager is at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, identical to the one that Sir Moss drove to a glorious Mille Miglia victory back in 1955. In honor of Stirling Moss, the automaker has now let the inline eight-cylinder engine roar for the final time as the vehicle drives through the streets of London before returning to its permanent home at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.

You join us in London on a Sunday morning in September. The 722 SLR with several Police escorts, drove past several landmarks of the British capital including the Houses of Parliament, the Royal Automobile Club, and "The Ritz" hotel. The drive concludes precisely at 7:22 a.m. with Elliot Moss, Sir Stirling’s son standing outside their Mayfair home.

Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson won the Italian Mille Miglia road race from Brescia to Rome and back in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR W196S, in May 1955, after starting at precisely 7:22 a.m. Moss took ten hours and seven minutes to complete the 1,606-kilometer (997.92 miles) journey from Brescia to Rome and back. The time and average speed - 157.6 km/h (97.93 mph) - are records that stand to this day.
