The latest Honda Civic takes on the Hyundai Elantra at the drag strip. The results might surprise you

Its Turbo power in the new Civic vs a naturally aspirated engine in the Elantra. Which one will dominate? Let’s find out

Compact sedans are bread and butter vehicles for most brands and the Civic and Elantra certainly fall into that category, for their respective brands. Not that it really matters at this end of the market, but which is faster

YouTuber, Sam CarLegion wanted to find out, which is why he pit the latest gen 2022 Honda Civic Touring, seen here in grey. The features a 1.5 L Turbo that produces 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque

The Honda goes up against a base model Elantra, finished in blue. It features a naturally aspirated 2.0 L engine that produces 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque

The Honda clearly has the edge in terms of power, but it weighs a couple of hundred pounds more than the Hyundai, tipping the scales at 3054 lbs as opposed to the Elantra's 2725 lbs

So this might be closer than you think. It's turbo power in the Honda vs a naturally aspirated engine in the Hyundai, with both cars using a CVT. Lets see if it makes any difference

For round 1, both cars set off in their normal mode

And to Sam's surprise, it's the Elantra that takes the lead

It was neck and neck all the way to the line, with the Civic just edging past

Round 2, Sport Mode please and both cars had the traction control, switched off

This time around, the Civic got a much better start, but it wasn't able to pull away from the Elantra

But as the speeds climb, the Honda manages to get past the Hyundai and clinch the win

Sam then ran two rolling passes from 50 kph or 31.07 mph

Once the cars get past the cone, they're off

On both passes, the Elantra was slightly ahead with the Civic catching up towards the end

But it was the Elantra that clinched the win in the second rolling race

Sam was expecting to obliterate the Elantra with the new Civic, but that clearly wasn't the case. He says that he will pit the high performance Elantra N vs the Civic Si, when that car launches. Can't wait for that one. Swipe Up to Read More.
