This Drag Race Between Five German Cars Oozes With Unpredictability
The Audi RS3, the BMW M2, The Mercedes-AMG A45, the Porsche Cayman GTS, and the VW Golf R face each other on the drag strip
Carwow’s latest video is about the German cars – the Audi RS3, the BMW M2, The Mercedes-AMG A45, the Porsche Cayman GTS, and the Volkswagen Golf R – taking on each other on the drag strip
The Audi RS3 comes with a 2.5-liter, five-cylinder turbo engine that puts out 400 HP and 369 lb/ft of torque. All four wheels are powered by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox
The BMW M2 Competition is powered by a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo straight-six mill. It makes 410 HP and 406 lb/ft of oomph. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox powers the rear wheels
The Mercedes-AMG A45 features a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 420 HP and 369 lb/ft of twist. It features an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system
The Porsche Cayman GTS comes with a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six engine that churns out 400 HP and 310 lb/ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission routes power to the rear wheels
The Volkswagen Golf R draws power from a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 320 HP and 310 lb/ft of pound-feet of torque. All four wheels are powered by a seven-speed automatic gearbox
As for the weights, the Porsche is the lightest, followed by the Volkswagen, the Audi, the BMW, and then the Mercedes
In the first drag race, the Audi and the VW got good starts. The AMG soon caught up with the Audi, whereas the BMW and Porsche had slow starts. The Audi went on to win the race
The AMG A45 had a better launch and reaction time in the second race, but the Audi was still too hot for it. The Golf couldn’t capitalize on its good start and lost the race, whereas the BMW and Porsche’s mini-battle was as close as it could get
The first rolling race was in comfort mode from 50 mph. The BMW broke out of the cluster to get an unassailable lead, or so it seemed. The Porsche pipped it in the end to win the round, whereas the Golf came last
The second rolling race saw some different starts and breakthrough points throughout, but none strong enough to change the results from the previous race in any which way
The final round was the brake test wherein the Mercedes stopped in the shortest distance. It was surprising since it is the heaviest of the lot. The Volkswagen dreaded run continued to this round as well
