In their latest video, AutoTopNL took a Ford F-250 Super Duty to its top speed on an unrestricted section of Autobahn in Germany. Now, this isn't the first time that a pickup has appeared on their channel.

The F-150 Raptor and the Ranger Raptor have also been previously featured. However, only the RAM 1500 had been previously let loose on the Autobahn, until now. Let's see how the Super Duty gets to its top speed.

Work trucks; they're pretty much everywhere and you probably don't give it a second glance on your way to work, unless it's been seriously kitted out. But, across the pond in Europe, pickups are not the most common kind of vehicle, thanks in part to the way Europe is built.

Everything is scaled down a size, out on the continent. Sure, they've got the Amarok and the Ranger, but these trucks are nowhere as near the size of full-size trucks that we're used to seeing at home.

The Ford F-250

Just as a quick refresher, here's Doug Demuro on what the Ford F-250 is all about:

This particular example though is the pre-facelift model Platinum edition, that's coming to you courtesy of buenavida supercar rentals. That's right, people out there can rent a work truck for fun. But thankfully, this one, although it appears pretty stock (which is a good thing), has a Stage 1 tune on the engine.

Speaking of the engine this one has a 6.7-liter power stroke turbo-diesel V-8 that puts out 450 horses and 860 pound-feet of torque, coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. Now as I mentioned earlier, these trucks were never really designed for speed, but instead, they're workhorses built to haul and tow and they do pretty well. But nonetheless, here was Max next to an unrestricted Autobahn.

The Test Drive

Now, before Max did the high-speed runs, he decided to take it for a spin around some local countryside to get a feel for it. To be honest, you can clearly see that the Super Duty barely fits on these narrow European roads and that is more so with those giant wing mirrors.

He pulled up below an underpass to hear what that turbo-V-8 sounds like. Next, he performed a 0-62 mph sprint (9.1 seconds) and a 1/4 mile (16.4 seconds), before finally taking it on to the autobahn.

Let's Hit The Autobahn

Pulling out of a truck stop onto the Autobahn, there's nothing very eventful to talk about on how the F-250 build speeds. Upon closing it, Max gives it the beans to see just how fast can this rig really go.

With enough room, he was able to hit the top speed of 200 kmph or 125 mph, which is as far as the needle will go, speeds that would never be possible out here (legally at least), but hey, at least you now know that it can indeed get there.

To Sum It Up

So, a work truck on the Autobahn. We now know what happens when you let it loose on a public highway without speed limits. Now, the F-250 is a great work truck and one of the longest-lasting trucks, but for outright speed, I'm sure you'll agree with me on this, it would've been nice to see something more exciting like the latest F-150 Raptor or RAM TRX going flat out. But nonetheless, this was fun too.
