What is the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the Lexus name? You most likely responded with dependability or prestige. However, there was one car in the Japanese manufacturer's history that prioritized performance over everything else. The vehicle I'm referring to is the ultra-rare and exotic Lexus LFA .

This is a Super-Rare Lexus LFA

The LFA was discontinued about a decade ago but now is your chance to get your hands on this nearly new example with only 72 miles on the clock. This vehicle never left the dealership and is currently for sale on BringaTrailer.com.

This particular LFA from 2012, was brought to Arlington Lexus in Palatine, Illinois and it has been on display at the dealership's showroom for the past nine years. This isn't unusual, since many dealerships had the LFA on display in order to attract more buyers and increase foot traffic.

Even when the LFA first went on sale over ten years ago, the sticker price upwards of $300,000, so it was a difficult pill for many to swallow, even for a Lexus. This could explain why, even with a limited run of just 500 units, they were difficult to sell.

However, that was completely missing the point. The LFA exemplified Japanese automotive engineering at its zenith. If we remember, the car wasn't particularly enticing at the time, but a lot has changed in the last decade, and with the entire industry moving toward electrification, limited edition supercars from the 1990s and 2000s are increasing in popularity and value.

Assembly of the LFA ceased in December 2012 and the last car landed in the U.S. in February 2013. As of January 2020, just a handful of new and unregistered units were still available for sale. Although the exact quantity fluctuates depending on what and where you read, fewer than 200 of them were brought to the United States.

It is powered by a gloriously sounding 4.8-liter V-10 with 552 horsepower and 334 pound-feet of torque that Yamaha assisted in developing. The powerful engine is coupled to a six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox. The braking system is quite typical, with six-piston Brembo monoblocks on the front axle and four-piston calipers in the back, paired with carbon-ceramic discs. The engine revs all the way to 9000 rpm.

For instance, the V10 engine found in the Carrera GT, which debuted nearly six years earlier to the LFA, is far more powerful at 603 hp. However, if it comes down to power versus performance, the LFA is the clear winner here. The Porsche had nearly a liter more in capacity at 5.2 liters and made around 50 hp more.

Coming back to this particular example, it has been spece’d rather well. It's finished in Pearl Yellow, making it one of only five other LFAs painted in this stunning shade brought to the country. Optional headlamp washers, a speed sensing retractable rear wing, and carbon-composite bodywork are among the other highlights.

The interior is made up of a combination of black and cream leather. The seats and headliner are made of plush suede. The LFA was the first Lexus vehicle to have a digital instrument cluster that changed layout and color depending on the driving mode. It also features NAV and voice command. The steering wheel is crafted from polished carbon fiber and features leather inlays.

Because this vehicle is almost new, the next owner will receive a window sticker, manufacturer's literature, a blank Vehicle Delivery Certificate, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title.

Special mention also has to be made of the sound that the LFA makes. It is nothing sort of epic and has to be one of the most evocative notes ever in the auto industry, especially for a road car. Purely on the basis of aural pleasure, it ranks right up there with the Porsche Carrera GT. To be honest, it sounds like an old Formula One car .

Will the LFA get a successor? Well, we think so and the way things are right now, expect the powertrain to be some kind of hybrid. But until then here's your chance to get hold of a brand new one of the last one.

So, how much will this LFA fetch? To put this into context, a silver LFA recently sold earlier this year at auction for $720,000 .

The current price for this perfect hand-made example is $660,000, but it is expected to rise sharply as there are just four days remaining until the auction closes on Friday, July the 2nd.
