U-Drag Race: The Subaru WRX AWD Gets Spanked By A FWD Hyundai Elantra N!

The Hyundai Elantra N shattered the Subaru WRX’s ego both the times they raced each other

The ‘Edmunds’ team came back for another U-Drag race, this time with the Subaru WRX taking on the Hyundai Elantra N

In case you’re wondering what a U-Drag race is, it combines a standing drag race and a roll race into one. This lets you gauge the car’s overall driving dynamics apart from straight-line sprints

2022 Subaru WRX:

It is powered by a 2.4-liter, turbocharged flat-four mill that puts out 271 horses and 258 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system

2022 Hyundai Elantra N:

It features a 2.0-liter, turbocharged inline-four engine that dishes out 276 horses and 289 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox drives the front wheels. It comes with rev-matching and launch control

The Elantra N tips the scales at 3,196 pounds, making it a little over 200 pounds lighter than the 3,400-pound Subaru WRX

Race 1:

The Elantra N’s launch control didn’t do any good as the WRX shot off the line. It stayed ahead at the quarter-mile mark and came out strong after the turn. But, the Hyundai got space to unleash all its horses and edged past the WRX to win the race

Race 2:

The Elantra kicked off without the launch control this time, and it worked wonders. It was quicker off the line and that sealed the deal for it. The Subaru couldn’t catch it any point and eventually lost by a fairly big margin

Swipe up to watch the race!

Overall, a pretty exciting race that showed the true characteristics of both the cars and how they perform when pushed to the extreme
