The folks at Carwow brought in four of the best EVs that money can buy you today. The contenders include an Audi e-Tron GT, a Mercedes EQS, a Porsche Taycan 4S, and a Tesla Model S. The Model S is the veteran of the lot, but can it defeat its fairly new rivals on the drag strip?

How Much Power Do They All Make?

All the oomph is sent to the wheels via a two-speed gearbox. It weighs 5,017 pounds.

It features a single-speed gearbox. The car is quite heavy, thanks to its massive 108 kWh battery pack. It weighs 5,467 pounds.

Being the Audi’s cousin, it also features a two-speed gearbox like the e-Tron GT. It stands at 4,894 pounds.

It comes with a single-speed gearbox that powers all four wheels. The Model S weighs in at 5,049 pounds.

The EQS Never Stood A Chance

The EQS started the race with a distinct disadvantage. It was the only car of the lot with a single electric motor and made the least power. It was also the heaviest. The same translated on the drag strip as well as all the other cars were quicker than it off the line. The Taycan, on the other hand, dominated the race till the end. The Model S got a good start, but the Audi e-Tron GT was able to get past it before the quarter-mile. In the end, the Taycan came first, finishing the race in 11.8 seconds, followed by the e-Tron GT in 12 seconds, the Model S in 12.4 seconds, and the EQS in 14.3 seconds.

Next up was the rolling race from 30 mph. This time, the Tesla got the best kickdown as it took the lead over all its rivals. The e-Tron GT was also quick and managed to overtake the Taycan. However, it soon went past both the cars to get the win again, and at pretty much the same time, the e-Tron GT got past the Model S. The Mercedes EQS was nowhere in contention. So, the results were the same as the drag race here, too.

They tried again from 50 mph to nullify the Audi and Porsche’s two-speed gearbox advantage. But, it didn’t have any impact on the result. The only difference was that the Audi didn’t get past the Porsche at the kickdown here.

Finally, there was the brake test from 70 mph. The e-Tron GT stopped in the shortest distance, followed by the Taycan, the EQS, and at last, the Tesla.
