2022 Ford Maverick

The Maverick, Ford’s latest compact truck, comes with two engine options, an optional all-wheel-drive system, and a starting price of a shade under $20,000

Ford has come up with a new compact truck called the Maverick. It is underpinned on the same platform as the Escape and the Bronco Sport

The Maverick will serve as the entry level truck in Ford’s lineup and will slot below the Ranger

It doesn't look too bad for a $20,000 truck. The Maverick comes with black plastic elements all around. It features halogen headlights as standard

The truck comes with 17- and 18-inch wheels in a variety of designs. Depending on the trim, they are available as standard as well as optional

The Maverick is offered in a single body style + bed size option

It will be offered in three trims - XL, XLT, and Lariat. Lariat is also available with a 'First Edition' package

The Maverick comes with a 4.5-foot bed which Ford calls the 'Flexbed'. It come with movable tie-down cleats to make hauling stuff convenient

It is available in up to 11 different exterior shades

The Maverick has a neat layout inside the cabin. It features cloth seats in the base trim, plaid cloth seats in the mid-trim, and leatherette on the top Lariat trim

It comes with an eight-inch touchscreen as standard on the center console, and a 4.2-inch screen in the instrument cluster. 6.5-inch screen here is offered on the Lariat

There is also a storage space under the rear seats

The Ford Maverick will be available with two different engines

The standard option is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 162 horses and 155 pound-feet of torque. Combined with the electric motor, it can churn out up to 191 ponies

The other engine is the optional 2.0-liter, four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that dishes out 250 horses and 277 pound-feet of torque. This engine is available with an all-wheel-drive system

The 2.5-liter mill is mated to a CVT, whereas the 2.0-liter EcoBoost is paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox

The Ford Maverick can tow up to 2,000 pounds as standard. If you opt for the EcoBoost engine, you can avail the 4K Tow Package that will allow you to tow up to 4,000 pounds

The maximum payload capacity is rated at 1,500 pounds with both the engines

Here's how the Maverick with the 2.5-liter, four-cylinder hybrid engine is priced: XL - $19,995; XLT - $22,280; Lariat - $25,490. The 2.0-liter engine comes at a premium of $1,085

The Maverick will go up against the Hyundai Santa Cruz. It will arrive in Summer 2021 but is expected to start around $28,000

Ford has mentioned that the Maverick will go on sale from fall 2021. It will be manufactured at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, Sonora, Mexico
