2022 Toyota Tundra

The third-gen 2022 Toyota Tundra features a new V-6 engine, bolder aesthetics, and upgraded tech

Toyota took the wraps off the third-gen, 2022 Tundra in September 2021. It was the first biggest change in 14 years that included a new platform, a new engine, and changes inside and outside the truck

The truck will be offered in two body styles, three bed lengths, and six trims – SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro

On the outside, it features a new front fascia and rear ends. There’s a large grille up front and new taillights at the back. Even the wheels come with six lug nuts pointing at better payload capabilities (which have increased, by the way)

The cabin looks modern and up-to-date. There’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. A 14-inch touchscreen graces the center console. Lower trims come with an eight-inch screen and an analog-digital instrument cluster

A 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V-6 replaces the aging V-8. It makes 348 HP and 405 lb/ft of torque in the standard tuning, and 389 HP and 479 lb/ft of torque in the powerful avatar

A hybrid version of this mill is offered too. With the electric motor’s assistance, it puts out 437 HP and 583 lb/ft of torque. Both the options are mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox

The best EPA-estimated rating comes on the base two-wheel-drive SR trim with the lowest power output - 18 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined

The new Tundra features a multi-link rear suspension setup with coil springs instead of leaf springs like the outgoing model. An air suspension and an adaptive variable suspension system are also available as options

The 2022 Tundra is rated to tow up to 12,000 lbs and haul up to 1,940 lbs, an increase of 1,800- and 210 lbs over the outgoing model, respectively

The TRD Pro trim has returned for the 2022 model. It includes stuff like 2.5-inch FOX internal bypass shocks, 1.1-inch front lift, front stabilizer bar, TRD aluminum front skid plate, all-terrain Falken tires, and so on.

A TRD Off-road package is also offered, and it comes with: 18-inch TRD wheels on SR5 and 20-inch wheels on Limited and 1794 trims, TRD grille, TRD off-road suspension, Skid plates, Mud guards, and TRD leather shift knob

The 2022 Tundra starts at $35,950, which is an increase of almost $1,600 over the outgoing model. It tops out at $52,295 in the outgoing model, but goes up to $61,020 this time around. With options and the hybrid mill, expect it to go north of $70,000

The Toyota Tundra will take go up against the likes of the Ford F-150, the Chevrolet Silverado, and the Ram 1500

The 2022 Tundra will arrive later this year unless the global semiconductor shortage affects the deliveries. Swipe up to read about it in detail
