2023 Toyota Sequoia

A new platform, a new V-6 engine, Tundra-like exterior bits, and modern tech and features are what’s special in the new Sequoia

After churning out the current-gen Sequoia for 14 years, Toyota has finally rolled out a new generation of the family SUV. It comes with changes on the outside, inside, and under the hood and skin

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Drivetrain:

Toyota has swapped the gas-guzzling V-8 with a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V-6 ‘i-Force Max’ hybrid-assisted engine under the hood. It makes 437 HP and 583 lb/ft of torque and is mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox

The engine is paired with a 4WD system on the TRD Pro trim and a 2WD system on the other trims as standard. Part-time 4WD is available on the other trims as optional

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Exterior:

The new Sequoia is based on the same TNGA-F platform that underpins the new Tundra, Land Cruiser 300, and the Lexus LX. It has been completely redesigned and follows the same design language as the Tundra

The seven-seater looks a lot sharper and less boring than before. You get a new set of headlights up front. The grille has also gotten bigger this time around. It looks chiseled when viewed from the side, too

At the rear, you get stretched, horizontal taillights that slip to the side. Even though it is quite bulky, it doesn’t look like a wall. There’s the wide ‘Sequoia’ branding on the tailgate. Overall, it’s a huge improvement over the outgoing model

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Exterior Shades:

The 2023 Sequoia will be offered in 11 shades – White, Wind Chill Pearl, Celestial Silver, Lunar Rock, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Blueprint, Army Green, Midnight Black Metallic, Smoked Mesquite, Supersonic Red, Solar Octane (TRD Pro-exclusive)

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Towing Capacity:

The SUV can now tow up to 9,000 lbs; 1,600 lbs more than the outgoing model. The new Sequoia also comes with a front independent suspension and a multi-link setup at the rear. Load-leveling rear air system and adaptive dampers are optional

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Trims:

The new Sequoia will be available in five trims – SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Capstone

TRD Pro:

On the outside, you get a heritage-inspired “TOYOTA” grille with an embedded TRD light bar and marker lights up front, 18-inch, Pro-specific black TRD alloy wheels, a 1/4-inch aluminum TRD front skid plate, dual TRD Pro exhaust tip, and a TRD roof rack

On the inside, there are captain’s chairs for the second-row, TRD heated steering wheel, TRD accents on the seats and shift knob. You also get the TRD-tuned FOX internal bypass shocks, selectable locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, etc.

Capstone:

Just like the Tundra, the 2023 Sequoia also gets a new flagship trim called the Capstone. There are unique chrome accents on the body, 22-inch chrome wheels, power running boards, semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats, LED mood lighting, etc.

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Packages:

A TRD Sport package will be offered on the SR5 trim. It includes TRD sport-tuned Bilstein monotube shocks and TRD-tuned springs, 20-inch matte-black TRD wheels, aluminum pedals, and a red TRD push-button start

A TRD Off-road package is offered on the SR5 and Limited 4WD trims. It comes with unique 18-inch wheels, TRD-tuned Bilstein monotube shocks and springs, selectable locking rear differential, multi-terrain select, multi-terrain monitor, etc.

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Interior:

The cabin is also a lot plusher and more modern than before. There’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. An eight-inch touchscreen is offered on the base trims, while a larger 14-inch touchscreen is present on the top trims

The SUV can be had with either a bench seat or captain’s chairs for the second row. The third-row bench can slide up to six inches to make it comfortable on longer journeys. They can be folded down to fit into an adjustable cargo shelf as well

On top trims, you get features like second-row captain’s chairs, heated and ventilated seats, 14-inch JBL audio system, wireless charging, head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, panoramic moonroof, etc.

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Pricing:

We speculate the 2023 Sequoia to start at around $53,000 and go north of $70,000 for the top trim. For your reference, the current Sequoia starts at $50,500

2023 Toyota Sequoia – Safety and Driver-Assistance Features:

The Sequoia comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 as standard. It includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Road Sign Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, etc.
