Spy shots reveal a brand new variant on the 390 Adventure platform, looking very much like it could be an enduro version of the single-cylinder pocket rocket.

KTM 390 Enduro Revealed by Spy Shots?

It might not look like much cosmetically but, under the makeshift bodywork lie the bones of a new KTM model, complete with brand new chassis and suspension, wheels and swing-arm.

The chassis frame, made up in typical KTM style from steel tubes, is unpainted and the tubes appear to be rusty but that merely means that KTM engineers are still working on the final detail of the chassis: building a chassis out of tubes means that it can be modified easily before being signed off.

Elsewhere, the bike is a mongrel of borrowed parts, with a headlight from the 390 Adventure, a front fender from another KTM enduro bike and a petrol tank that's merely a box!

The new frame looks very much like that will be used on the next generation of the 390 Duke. The current chassis frame has a large diameter tube running from the headstock to the swing arm pivot whereas the new one seen here has two large tubes linked by smaller diameter tubes and it looks very much like the trellis frame used on Ducati Monsters and the like. There is a much longer alloy bracket reaching from the frame to the engine's upper mounting point.

Another significant change is to the swing arm design. KTMs have used a similar design for many of its models but this one seems to be machined from a billet of aluminium and have a distinct curve or banana shape to it.

The other obvious change is the adoption of a 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear in place of the 19/17-inch items on the 390 Adventure, which are also cast alloy instead of the spoked items seen here. In this, the 390 Enduro would follow established KTM practice of base 'Adventure' models with alloy wheels and 'R' models with spoked wheels. The 'spy shot' bike is wearing full knobbly tyres.

A more hardcore 390 Adventure would make sense and bring the 390 range into line with the rest of the KTM adventure line. Another tantalising thought is replacing the wheels with 18-inch spoked units and fitting sports road tyres to create a 390 Supermoto! How cool would that be?

Given the state of the test mule, the bike - whatever it will be - is not about to go into production immediately. We'd expect it to emerge towards the end of the year as a 2023 model, possibly at the same time as the revised 390 Duke range appears?
