600cc motorcycles are often treated as downright “slow” by superbike owners, especially people with Hayabusas, and it makes sense since there’s a huge power advantage with the latter.

However, this drag race between a Suzuki GSX-R600 and Suzuki Hayabusa will make you think twice before calling a 600cc bike slow again. Ready to have your mind blown? Well, let’s get into it then.

The Contenders

The first contender here is a Suzuki GSX-R600. Boasting a 599cc, straight-four mill, the Gixxer 600 made a respectable 124 horsepower and 50 pound-feet. Meanwhile, it weighed just 412 pounds fully laden.

Going against the Gixxer is the flagship Suzuki sportbike, the GSX-R1300 a.k.a the Hayabusa. The gen-II model featured here employed is a 1,342cc, straight-four engine, belting out 197 horsepower and 102 pound-feet. Countering all this power, however, is the Hayabusa’s heft at a massive 582 pounds.

On a side note, these are the stock numbers and both the bikes here are running several internal as well as external mods which make them proper drag bikes.

Regardless of its considerably lower weight, the GSX-R600 is really no match for Busa’s insane power figures. But, and this is a big but, as soon as the race begins, it’s the Gixxer 600 that gets off the line faster and takes the lead ahead of the Hayabusa.

Now, even though this is due to a marginally slower reaction time by the Hayabusa's rider, what's shocking is that the Busa struggles to get past the GSX-R600 and actually takes a little while to catch up.

When it does eventually get past, it only manages to win the race by a whisker, which is truly shocking considering its HUGE power advantage.
