The luxury car market is growing exponentially, with tons of options available today in a wide price bandwidth. While you can get a luxury badged car for as low as $35,000 – or even under $35,000 – they might be too low a starting point to enjoy the luxuries of the segment. But that is the great thing about having so many options; you can pick the price point that you want to start at and go from there.

So, we've raised the bar a little and compiled a list of the best luxury cars you can get for under $70,000. We have chosen to exclude some of the low-end luxury cars, such as the 2023 Tesla Model 3, which has a suggested starting price tag of $39,990, and the Lexus IS which starts out at $40,985, simply because they are on the lower end of the luxury car spectrum.

That is not to say that they are not great cars because if you are in the market for an affordable luxury car, they should definitely be on the top of your list. For now, though, we have only given room for some of the more plush models on the market.

Updated August 29, 2023: The car market is a dynamic place, and further changes to the luxury car segment have occurred. Instead of writing a new piece, we have decided to update this one by changing the outdated information and adding a few more fresh choices for you to review.

After consulting with specialized websites and looking at data from sites like CarEdge Cars.com, KBB, and CarGurus we added a few more models to the list.

Audi A7 55 TFSI e PHEV in red
Audi

The A7 is a very unconventional vehicle, but it still doesn't draw a lot of polarizing opinions. While it has a sporty card to it, it is pretty darn luxurious, too, on the inside. Stuff like three-zone climate control, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, etc., are offered on every trim. The dual touchscreen systems are pleasing to the eye but are clearly form over function because even the littlest of things are controlled by the screens.

In recent years, Cadillac has been quite successful at appealing to younger demographics with a need for speed. This is especially true for the BLACKWING models, which sit at the top of the Cadillac lineup when it comes to performance. Performance and luxury aren’t mutually exclusive and the CT4-V BLACKWING proves it despite being Cadillac’s entry-level, rear-wheel-drive sedan.

In the past, Cadillac was known for its big, luxury barges and large-displacement, torquey V-8 engines, but you will find none of that here. All versions of the CT4 benefit from the Alpha platform, which makes them as athletic as the European rivals. Instead of a pushrod V-8, you get a 3.6-liter, twin-turbo, LF4 V-6 that packs 472 horsepower and 444 pound-feet (603 Nm). The most exciting thing is that while a 10-speed automatic is available, a six-speed manual is standard.

Cadillac knows how to make a full-size, executive sedan, and the CT6 sat at the top of the lineup. While the CT6 isn’t quite as refined as the S-Class when it comes to hi-tech and luxury, it’s a lot more affordable, and ultimately, a bargain luxury sedan from the full-size executive segment. The CT6 is underpinned by the Omega platform, which is, essentially, the bigger version of the Alpha platform. This makes the CT6 surprisingly nimble and athletic for its size.

Although Toyota’s luxury arm, Lexus, has given us some epic performance models, the main of which is the LFA, it isn’t associated with exciting performance models as much as other carmakers. Despite that, Lexus is, currently, one of the very few car companies that can still sell you a sports luxury sedan with a normally-aspirated V-8 engine. Lexus’ entry-level sedan is available with an inline-four and V-6 engine, but even the IS500 starts at $55,520.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that, in normal driving conditions, the range-topping V-8 isn’t that much thirstier than the base engine. Toyota and Lexus are also working on a modified version of that V-8, able to burn hydrogen instead of gasoline. More reasons to go for it.

The 3 Series has long been the Bavarian brand’s bestseller and if you are looking for a sportier version of it that doesn’t break the bank (as much), the M340i is the one to go for.
