When driving an electric vehicle, the confidence that you’ll make it to your destination without running out of power can't be overemphasized. A range of at least 200 miles is necessary to alleviate those fears of whether electric vehicles can make long trips and distance drives. In addition to this, fast charging ensures that drivers can get back on the road quickly after stopping to charge. Electric vehicles that have fast charging capabilities and access to a range of charging stations can provide quick top-ups while they're out on the move.

Then you get to the crux of the matter: the price point. Getting an electric vehicle that has over 200 miles of all-electric range doesn't have to break the bank. You should be able to go to the dealer or shop online with a budget under $46,000 and come out with an adequate SUV.

With more than 200 miles of range, whether you're just exploring electric vehicles or looking for an affordable option to make the switch, there's an electric car for you. With the electric car revolution here and now, improvements to technology have taken electric cars from just a prestige item to a mainstream choice. So, while you're looking for an inexpensive way to make the switch, any of these vehicles could be the perfect fit.

15 BMW i4: 252-307 miles

Starting Price: $52,200

Typically, nothing that comes from the Bavarian carmaker can truly be called affordable. Still, as far as EVs capable of more than 200 miles are concerned, the i4 is, arguably, the only performance EV that does the deed. If you want to keep things relatively affordable, you have to forget about the 536-horsepower M50 version and instead go for the base eDrive35 model.

The interior is upscale and roomy, but more importantly, it’s as luxurious as BMW’s conventional models, powered by internal combustion engines. On DC charging, the BMW i4 allows for a 10 to 80 percent charge in 31 minutes.

This is one of your more top-line EV models, although, for around $50,000, it falls into a middle price range for electric vehicles. This market tends to be more expensive than ICE.

10 Ford Mustang Mach-E: 224-312 miles

Starting Price: $42,995

Retro-inspired EVs are a thing, thanks to the Mustang Mach-E. The EV crossover doesn’t hide the fact it’s a Mustang, regardless of whether purists approve of it or not. The signature tri-bar taillights and S550 Mustang-inspired headlights are there to remind you of the heritage. Still, more importantly, in just two years, the Mustang Mach-E became a proper competitor to the Tesla Model Y. In rear-wheel-drive guise, the Mach-E’s 70 kWh battery pack allows for 290 miles of range on a single charge.

The 2024 Mach-E will not see many changes from 2023. As of now, Ford is selling 2023 models only. 2024 releases won't hit dealers until later this year.

9 Kia EV6: 232-310 miles

Starting Price: $42,600

Kia’s sporty, electric crossover/ SUV is a great all-rounder in the EV segment. While the range-topping GT trim is able to give supercars a run for their money, with regard to straight-line acceleration, all versions of the Korean EV come with a range of over 200 miles (322 km). All versions of the EV6 pack a 77.4 kWh battery, which provides a maximum range of 232 miles EPA. The GT-Line gets you heated and cooled seats, electric driver seat adjustment, an electric tailgate, and a leather-suede interior, but the range goes down to 206 miles. Again, this is a nice middle-ground EV to choose from, all with a sportier edge than some of the others in its class.

The fastback/sedan is a strong contender due to its low starting price compared to its competitors, as well as the practicality it offers.
