Ford is pulling the plug on its iconic supercar nameplate, the GT, and it is doing it just the American way. Enter the new 2022 Ford GT LM Edition, the final iteration of the second generation GT that debuted in 2016. This special edition car celebrates Ford’s win at the 2016 Le Mans and has some fantastic designs and touches to make it stand out from the rest of the lineup.

It is a Shame to Bid Goodbye to One of America’s Full-Blown Supercars

2022 Ford GT LM Edition

Ford’s ‘Last Call’ to the GT supercar will be super exclusive, and only 20 will be made. However, Ford will make the LM Edition distinctive in every way possible compared to the other GT special edition cars. All examples of the GT LM Edition will be offered with a Liquid Silver exterior finish, but Ford will offer a choice of either blue or red accents in respect to the Le Mans-winning race car’s blue and red livery. Either color accent will be implemented on the front carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser, and door sills. The GT LM Edition also sports newly designed 20-inch carbon fiber wheels, titanium lug nuts, and black lacquer-painted Brembo calipers. Finally, some 3D-printed components on the exterior of the GT include titanium exhaust pipes and the GT LM badge at the rear.

An Exclusive and Luxurious Cabin

Inside the cabin, you will find the beautiful carbon-fiber and Alcantara-wrapped driver’s seat. In addition, the blue and red accents flow through the interior. The headliner, dashboard, and pillars are all Alcantara-wrapped. However, the passenger seat is wrapped in Ebony leather and has blue and red accent colors. Carbon fiber parts inside the cabin elevate the GT’s sportiness. It can be found on the center console, air vents, and A-pillars. All LM Edition GTs will sport a special plaque on the dashboard, which is made from the original Le Mans-winning car.

The End is the New Beginning

After serving for over eight years, the GT lineup is ending. To put it more efficiently, Ford will go all-electric by the end of this decade, and the GT LM Edition is the end of the supercar with the ICE. On the other hand, Ford might revive the moniker when it has a high-performance electric powertrain ready to replace the 3.5-liter V-6. The current 3.5-liter V-6 cranks out the unchanged 660 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. Ford did not make the engine more potent due to unknown reasons.

December 2022 will mark the end of Ford GT production (hopefully, it will be revived as an EV in the future). The Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports, Mark Rushbrook, said, “As we close this chapter of the road-going Ford GT, the GT LM Edition gave us a chance to inject even more heart and soul from a podium finishing race car, furthering the tribute to our 2016 Le Mans win.” Ford’s projected 1,350 examples of the GT include 20 of the LM Edition cars. However, even if you had all the money in the world, you cannot buy the LM Edition Ford GT as it is available only for existing Ford GT owners.
