Acura is renowned for producing cars that excel in luxury, performance, and safety. The Acura NSX Type S made its debut on the market in 2016 and has gone toe-to-toe against its equally impressive models. Its six-year run has come to an end with the production of its final units, and the automaker has announced the possibility of an all-electric successor to be launched in 2026. But, until then, let's take a lot at this beast.

1 The NSX Type S Is Fitted With A Monstrous Engine

Acura NSX is known for its powerful engine, which is designed to deliver impressive acceleration and top speeds. Both, Acura NSX and Acura NSX Type S models, are equipped with a twin-turbo V-6 engine with a 3.5-liter displacement. The Aluminum Alloy 75-degree Hybrid engine can get the 2022 Acura NSX Type S 2022 from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds! The V-6 engine produces 443 pound-feet of torque between 2,300 and 6,000 rpm and 520 horsepower between 6,500 and 6,850 rpm. While the rear arrangement produces 47 horses and 109 pound-feet of torque, the front twin-motor setup produces 72 horses and 108 pound-feet of torque.

2 Its Transmission System Is Quite Impressive

Acura's engineers have updated the dual-clutch automatic software to match the added power. Large shift paddle commands are now transmitted to the transmission 50-percent faster, and downshifts under strong braking are more forceful. The gearbox shifts to the lowest feasible gear automatically if the downshift paddle is depressed for 0.6 seconds. As the specially engineered Pirelli P Zero PZ4 tires dig into the track surface, the steering wheel inputs are instantly relayed to them. The Type S is kept on a string through the apex by the front drive motors' updated torque-vectoring system, which also keeps your NSX flat under lateral stresses.

The Twin Motor Unit (TMU) gear's ratio has been adjusted from 8.050:1 to 10.382:1 to propel the front wheels and offer active torque sensing during turns. This 20-percent lower ratio boosts the NSX's off-the-line traction for a more explosive launch. The Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) of the supercar, which fuels the electric motors, is also utilized more effectively. This permits a 10-percent increase in battery performance and a 20-percent increase in effective battery capacity.

4 The NSX Type S’s Integrated Dynamics System

The Type S model features world-tier handling and thrust combined with an unrivaled driving experience and day-to-day livability. Acura's engineers have twitched NSX’s Integrated Dynamics System, Intake Sound Control, and Active Sound Control. The revamped Integrated Dynamics System also has four modes: Quiet Mode, Track Mode, Sport Mode, and Sport+ Mode. By holding down the downshift paddle in Sport mode and higher, the new Rapid Downshift feature enables the driver to bypass multiple gears at once rather than clicking through each one at a time. Additionally, the transmission's performance in Track mode has been enhanced, enabling the NSX Type S to shift gears earlier as a result of a 1,500 rpm rise in the rev threshold. These modes offer everything including increased battery capacity, passionate experience on winding roads, and improved performance and grip potential.

5 The Flagship Honda NSX Looks Aggressive

Acura

The dramatic and aggressive new look of the NSX Type S is based on the core ideas of Total Airflow Management, which has influenced NSX design from the beginning. An eye-catching crimson engine cover and darkened headlamp and rear lights add to the vehicle's menacing image. The dark Jewel Eye LED headlamps contribute to the overall aggressive sporty outlook of the NSX Type S. Together, the redesigned nose's larger, more angular air intakes and the larger diffuser on the back end increase high-speed stability. By channeling airflow under the automobile, the revised design of its carbon fiber front spoiler reduces front aerodynamic lift. A wider front grille aperture allows more air to reach the radiators, which in turn helps cool the more powerful engine.

6 Acura Has Paid Special Attention To Its Aerodynamics

The NSX Type S has improved aerodynamics over the Honda NSX regular model. This includes a bigger front grille to allow for improved engine ventilation, a carbon fiber roof, a rear diffuser designed after the NSX GT3, etc. The front splitter, side sills, and even the rear spoiler are made of carbon fiber. New five-spoke performance forged wheels with a 19-inch front diameter and a 20-inch rear diameter are mounted on the Acura NSX Type S. All four corners are fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tires which were created specifically for Acura. The unique NSX Type S demands a paint that is just as uncommon. An eye-catching crimson engine cover and darkened headlamp and rear lights add to the vehicle's menacing image. The dark Jewel Eye™ LED headlamps contribute to the overall aggressive sporty outlook of the NSX Type S. The available limited edition Gotham Gray Matte paint, created by PMC engineers, makes use of premium paint with nanotechnology to provide a gorgeous exterior deserving of the Type S badge.

7 Some Unique Touches

Acura

The NSX Type S is constructed entirely out of authentic materials, including the carbon fiber seen on its side sills, rear deck-lid spoiler, and a redesigned diffuser. In addition to enhancing the new appearance, a standard carbon fiber roof lowers the supercar's center of gravity by removing weight from higher up in the vehicle. The steel mesh in each of the front air intakes has replaced the earlier resin mesh. For the first time, front and rear Acura logos are standard, along with door handles, exhaust finishers, and Gloss Berlina Black exterior mirrors. The rear quarter panels of each NSX Type S will have "Type S'' decals and a special numbered plaque affixed on the engine cowling.

8 Its Interior Takes Your Breath Away

The NSX Type S has a comfortable and well-equipped interior that features high-quality materials and advanced technology. The interior of the second-generation NSX, which was modeled after the first one, has been significantly improved in the NSX Type S and is ergonomic and driver-focused. An Alcantara headliner, an embroidered Type S badge on the glove box, and engraved NSX logos on the cushions are also recent additions you can enjoy. With its three possible Alcantara and Semi-Aniline Leather combinations—Ebony, Orchid, and Red—as well as contrast embroidery, you can easily find yourself enjoying the comfort of the cabin. These high-quality characteristics put the NSX Type S’ interior on par with its exterior.

The 2022 Acura NSX Type S is already sold out! With only 350 copies of this car made in the entire world and 300 examples available in the United States, the rare supercar hand built in the bowels of the PMC truly deserves the Type S badge sitting on its carbon fiber engine cover. The Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio is the only place where the second-generation Acura NSX is produced, including the NSX Type S. The PMC was created to reinvent the means and methods of making low-volume specialty vehicles by fusing the accuracy of cutting-edge technology with the elegance of human craftsmanship. It was first designed for the production of specialty, hand-built automobiles. The Anna Engine Plant in Ohio has a specific area where the NSX engine is hand-assembled.

10 The Acura NSX Type S Wasn't Cheap

As you may have suspected, the 2022 Acura NSX Type S with these amazing qualities is worth a fortune. With $169,500 as Acura’s Suggested Retail Price, the supercar can get costlier with additional, custom fittings. It is priced on par with its chief rival, the Porsche 911 GT3 which starts at $169,700, but is more expensive than the C8 Corvette Z06 which starts at $105,300. However, it must be noted that neither the Porsche, nor the Corvette are as exclusive as the NSX Type-S.
