Turning a naked motorcycle into a full sport bike should be pretty simple. Just cover the engine, add a front fairing with a tiny windshield, and voila… you got yourself a sport bike (more or less). Well the guys at deBolex from South Croydon, UK took it a few steps further than that when they came up with this magnificent dB25. Each of these motorcycles is built to the owner’s wishes. From color, bodywork, exhaust combination to the seat trimming and custom finishes.
This unique shop started customizing motorcycles back in 2012. What put this three-man team on the map was their desire to not just customize a motorcycle, but to improve it in every possible way. The general idea is to take a motorcycle, strip it down to the basics and rebuild it back as something completely different, and also faster.
Based On A Monster 1200
The motorcycle they chose to be the basis for the dB25 is a Ducati Monster 1200. And it is a great choice. At the time of its release, the 1200 was the fastest Monster ever made by Ducati. It has a 1,198cc L-twin engine capable of producing 147 horsepower. That definitely covers the ‘performance’ part. According to deBolex, “the dB25 is the first in a number of series of projects to be developed by deBolex. Using the Ducati Monster 1200, we’ve transformed this fantastic platform into a full fairing retro racer. We’ve reimagined both the design and character with over 100 new custom components”.
How The Ducati Monster Became The dB25
The frame was slightly customized to accommodate the new fairing mounts. The sub-frame however, was fully fabricated out of aluminum in order to make the dB25 lighter, and to fit the quick-release seat system. What stands out, design-wise, is definitely the front LED headlight that is hidden behind a removable carbon fiber cover. The side panels are also completely made of carbon fiber, and it was done by deBolex themselves, no outsourcing from these guys. The only major thing that wasn’t made from carbon fiber is the fuel tank, which is made from polymer, making it tough and sturdy.
The suspension comes from a UK based company called Maxton, or if you really want to splurge, from Öhlins. On the other hand, the titanium exhaust is from world-renowned SC-Project. They even offer the possibility of installing full race silencers. Considering that this is a highly customizable motorcycle, the company promises that no two units will ever be completely the same.
Looking To Buy One?
Well, you will have to order it from England, of course, and it will not be cheap. Limited edition custom motorcycles rarely are, especially at this level of craftsmanship. This one will set you back around $47,000, with a four to six-week waiting period. Sounds reasonable to be honest. Keep in mind that ten bikes are already sold.
