A Subaru BRAT Just Ran a Quarter-Mile in Less Than 8 Second And We’re Not Sure if This is Real Life

Quicker than a V-8-powered dragster!

The Subaru BRAT was a cool, light-duty utility vehicle that the Japanese brand sold in various markets from 1978 to 1994. The BRAT wasn’t particularly powerful for its era and wasn’t very popular either. But its lack of power didn’t stop one Australian owner from turning his BRAT into a high-performance dragster. This seemingly standard BRAT ran the quarter-mile in only 7.95 seconds at a whopping 168 mph.

What Does Ford Need to Do to Kill the Tesla Pickup Truck?

What Does Ford Need to Do to Kill the Tesla Pickup Truck?

Tesla is all set to take away the lunch money from Ford’s breadwinner and the latter needs to act fast on it

The invasion of EVs is nothing short of a paradigm shift in the auto industry. A segment that seemed to remain untouched and wary of electrification for the longest period is finally starting to look vulnerable and at the brink of a major breakthrough, thanks to companies like Tesla and Rivian. Since Ford has been dominating the pickup truck segment for over four decades now, it has the biggest target on its back. For now, Ford has managed to weather the storm by keeping the electrified competition at bay – well, to an extent – but that doesn’t mean it will be able to sit on the throne when electrification takes prominence.

For now, the three big names here are Tesla, Rivian, and Ford. Although Rivian is doing well and we are excited for the launch of its R1T pickup truck, Ford’s biggest challenger will be the EV Czar, Tesla. Here are 11 points we’ve listed that Ford needs to do to have the upper hand on Tesla’s pickup truck – that will apparently be called the Tesla Model B - and rule the segment when the dust settles.

You’ve Seen Car Restoration Videos Before, But Not Like This

This is probably one of the most satisfying 20-minute videos you’ll see in a long time

Twenty-minute videos can be taxing to watch, especially if you’re not that interested in what you’re watching. Fortunately, nothing about this video of a 60-year-old Tonka truck getting restored counts as taxing. On the contrary, there’s something oddly therapeutic about watching a beat up and rusted up toy get restored to its former glory. The subject of this particular video is a 1960’s Tonka Wrecker Truck, and if you haven’t seen this video presented by the Rescue & Restore YouTube channel, now’s as good a time as any to get a first look at what this specific channel is all about. Believe me; there’s a good chance that you’re not going to stop with just this video.

Ram's New EcoDiesel Engine Undercuts The Price of The Competition While Claiming The Top-Spot In The Towing Department

Ram’s New EcoDiesel Engine Undercuts The Price of The Competition While Claiming The Top-Spot In The Towing Department

With this new engine, Ram seems to have a winner in its hands

Don’t you fret, diesel engine fans. Even if EVs are taking the industry by storm, oil burners are here to stay; at least when it comes to pickup trucks. Companies in this segment generally tend to have many diesel engine options and from the looks of it, there’s no stopping yet. On that note, Ram has launched its third-gen EcoDiesel engine in the 2020 Ram 1500 pickup trucks. This engine will be available across the stable in all configurations, but does it get any better than the second-generation EcoDiesel?

Ford Introduces a Much-Needed Off-Road Package for the Rear-Wheel Drive Ranger

Ford Introduces a Much-Needed Off-Road Package for the Rear-Wheel Drive Ranger

The FX2 Package will most certainly attract a lot of buyers

Pickup trucks are no longer used purely as workhorses. Enthusiasts are buying them for the cool-quotient and to do stuff that they can’t with their smaller cars. However, this doesn’t mean that anybody who buys a full-fledged truck uses it to its maximum potential. A couple of decades back, a two-wheel drive truck came with shorter ground clearance and looked like a truck for the namesake, whereas the four-wheel drive trucks were just too bulky. The gap has certainly narrowed down today, but there is still a vacuum here. That is why Ford decided to introduce an off-road package for the two-wheel-drive Ranger called FX2. This seems like a very simple move, but if tapped the right way, it could work wonders for the company.

2019 Mitsubishi L200 Series 6

The same-old, reliable Japanese workhorse in new skin

When you’re in the market for a new car, a Mitsubishi vehicle is not generally your first choice. However, it does not mean that the Japanese brand is not doing well here in the States. In fact, Mitsubishi actually outsold Land Rover, Mini, and Volvo in 2018. Maybe it is some kind of sorcery, or Mitsubishi has sprayed some sort of invisible ink, we don’t know, but the Japanese giant has managed to move 118,074 cars in 2018 - all of it without socializing at auto-show gatherings or sponsoring many events. But, this is not the case in the U.K. The company is doing pretty well there and even sells a pickup truck called the L200. Mitsubishi has been producing the L200 pickup truck since 1978; under different monikers, though. The company has launched the sixth-generation now and it looks like a well-rounded package. Will the L200 Series 6 be able to hold its “fort(e)” in the highly competitive market?

2019 Ford Ranger VelociRaptor by Hennessey

2019 Ford Ranger VelociRaptor by Hennessey

A product that Ford should have given us long back

Hennessey has been ripping up cars and trucks and turning them into something even more monstrous for quite some time now. We recently saw the tuner’s Jeep creation in the form of the Gladiator Maximus with the Hellcat engine and 1,000 horses that came with it. However, Hennessey is best-known for its Ford creations. Remember the 6x6 VelicoRaptor concept? The company already deals with the Raptor, Mustang, F-150, and GT, and will soon be adding the 2020 Bronco as well. But for now, the tuner has decided to expand the Ford portfolio by adding the 2019 Ranger. Although a clever word play back then, it’s clear now that ’VelociRaptor’ is not dedicated solely to the Ford Raptor anymore; perhaps, it refers to the dinosaur. So what if Ford does not want to give us the Ranger Raptor? Hennessey is here to listen to us.

Land Rover Defender by ECD Auto Design

Not often do we come across such elegantly customized trucks

Land Rover Defender is not a new name. The off-road compact SUV came to life with this moniker in the 1980s, before which it was known as the Land Rover Ninety and Land Rover One Ten. This vehicle went off the production line in 2016, but such was the craze that the automaker had to cave into the customers’ demands, so it rolled out a special edition of the Defender called the Defender Works V-8 in 2018. The Defender, as is with any off-road truck, has been at the mercy of its owners and we have seen many customized versions of the same. But this one particular company called ECD Automotive Design specializes in customizing Defenders. It recently experimented with a customer Defender 130 and the results have made our day.

MG Extender

This truck could prove to be a game-changer for MG as a brand

MG, the iconic British brand, is making a comeback of sorts. The company has not really been in news as much as the other mainstream automakers, but with its latest offering, it sure should. From building fancy two-door sports cars, MG has moved to the commercial trucks fray. The company is fondly remembered for its two-seater sports cars from the 1960s and 1970s like the MGB and the MG Midget. Fast-forward to 2109, and the company has a pickup truck in its hands – the MG Extender. This is arguably the best segment to draw in volumes. For now, MG will be launching the Extender only in Thailand.

Video of the Day – Epic Diesel Truck Fails

We’re not sure what it is, but there’s just something about guys that own big diesel trucks. Whether it’s the “better-than-you” attitude or the “I can conquer all” mindset, they are almost always driving like a douche or getting into something they probably shouldn’t be during. There’s a lot of that in this video.
